Interestingly the Beach Boys are part of what got me to move to LA in the 80 and leave the snow. BUT Brian Wilson is such a strange duck that I never could get my head wrapped around his post mental collapse period.

The Animal whatever it was seemed so self indulgent and bizarre so the whole genius thing went right over my head.

This summer on SiriusXM they're hosting a Beach Boys channel; it's been great to listen to interspersed with segments from the U2 channel. I hope Brian is going strong for many more years!!! Happy birthday, Brian!!!

If I remember correctly his father may very well had something to do with some of the issues he had.

Bit of an understatement there! Dad was a prick who sold out the band’s ownership over most of their catalogue.

That dynamic left him so f*#@ed up he was a puppet for much of the next 25 years. Check out the movie “Love and Mercy”. Great treatment of the guy’s life.

He has always been one of my favorite artists since I was a kid. He was so directly influential on much of the music that followed, even from the Beatles.

Wasn’t his father abusive as well?

Sorry but I didn’t and don’t follow The Beach Boys but I think I saw a documentary awhile ago.
