Probably classified as an addiction now, but gaming. I've spent far too much on games and gaming equipment but it has gotten me through bad breakups, tough exams, and lots of lemons life threw at me.

Cycling has given me almost everything I am. It is a microcosm of life itself; the ability to endure pain, courage, patience, God’s beauty, forgiveness, pride, knowledge, etc.

Golf, more specifically the art of repairing divots left by my less than stellar iron shots. Especially, the second, third, and fourth divots left from said less than stellar iron shot, as I act out how the shot should have went, but it didn’t. Then I look at the club as if there is something wrong with it, must be cuz it can’t always be my fault. Love the game and all of its frustration. Aloha, Tim

Maybe combine the two? I have no kids yet, but definitely something my wife is ok with as long as I don’t have them collecting gis (can’t help it... BullTerrier and CTRL have been coming up with some interesting designs recently!)

Mine are jewelry making and Jiu Jitsu.... But BJJ took a back seat recently since funds got right after having surgery a year ago.

Sports cards and sports memorabilia (mainly hockey and baseball) for hobbies - gravel and mountain biking for outside passions. I love golf too, but lack the time to do everything. Oh, did I mention skiing the steeps in BC every winter as well?

Most rewarding, walking.

Least rewarding, gaming. Waste hours of your life to level up a non existent character. Could have read a book in that time, learnt a skill or just done a few hours overtime.

Sporting Clays. The different target presentations are both fun and challenging. You have to clear your mind and focus on the target. Plus you know right away if the target is scored dead. No waiting around for results to be posted. Also there is the social aspect as well. As another poster stated, you get to see some marvelous target guns and talk to like-minded folks. A good, spirited back roads drive is good for clearing your mind as well. For me both are relaxing and are very enjoyable.

Back in the late '90s I did several Century rides. Covered bridges of Bucks County, out into Berks County, pretty damn far, and always with the crappiest gear. And always finished.

These days, taking apart an old violin, making repairs, putting it back together, and having it sound great is exceptionally rewarding. Most of the violins worth working on - to me - have been pre-WWII German. 1880-1915 seems to be most common for the centenarians. A pair of pre-1880 violins recently provided amazing insight into wear'n'tear and decades-old repair practices of "trade" violins.

Tip: If you find a POS violin with a cracked top which looks and smells like a late 1800s house in decay and disrepair (Right, how yould you know? Just imagine ) AND it looked played to death, peg holes out of round, fingerboard misshapen from long playing, it will probably sound GREAT after 40 hours of careful work. Buy for $40, put in $1200-$2000 in work and $80 in material, and end up with a $220 - $350 violin.

Tennis, biking, boating and running, in no particular order.

Boating costs a bit, but the others are all virtually free, so....

Being content, good health and prosperity. Doing anything you are passionate about would provide any of those.

What a great thing to collect - I have never heard of anyone doing it. I would like one now!

Incidentally- I live in Sheffield, but can't recall ever having seen one in antique/collectable shops

Mountain biking (Live on the edge of the Peak district, so some fantastic scenery/rides. I don't agree that this is a cheap hobby!!)
Running
Racketball
Gardening (surprised nobody else has mentioned it. I am rubbish and don’t really know much about it, but find it relaxing)

Interests rather than strictly hobbies:
Drinking
Nice restaurants (though generally not Michelin)
Walking the dog
Reading
Cars and watches.

Guess I'm not the only one here, cycling.

The travel to remote villages and roads less ridden in the Pyrenees, Alps, and Dolomites where I would have NEVER went.
The discipline to wake up at 4am to train.
The countless new friends made from group rides, races, and teammates.
The health benefits (200 pounds to 155 pounds (race weight)) and hopefully years added to my life.

What's your most rewarding hobby?

I collect and shave with straight razors. When a razor is honed correctly, and I'm on my game, every morning I have a shot at perfection. Stepping away from the mirror, perfectly shaved and smelling good, is a pretty rewarding way to start my day.

I love driving and traveling.

I am also getting started in blacksmithing.

I had a total foot reconstruction, which has left me immobile for many weeks. During this time I have really thought about how I can better myself once I heal up.

So I decided I wanted to start a hobby where I can have an outlet to create stuff, and would always be able to keep learning.

The idea of creating stuff from seemingly nothing fascinates me.
