First of all...that thing is awful. Second, I wonder if that account was hacked. All previous feedback is as a buyer but a few weeks ago someone claimed they ordered something from this person but didn’t receive the item.

I think you're right as all the previous buying activities are old. So probably it was an inactive account which got hacked. I hope listing gets removed soon.

It did not sell at least within eBay.
I think the seller just pulled it

He posted it, ended it, and re-listed it.

The original and the replacement are now both deleted by eBay, but don't be too surprised if he tries again.

Usually the incorrigible ones get a suspension first.

Then if they return, eBay goes with more drastic measures. In this case the seller has weak feed-back so he'll be on a short tether.

Ebay just has the habit of banning good honest sellers first.

A zombie eBay account that is hijacked should be banned until the original owner contacts eBay about it. Then he or she can provide the bona fide information used to set it up originally.

eBay would be doing buyers an injustice if they didn't stop the hijackers - and the honest victim can always get reinstated.

even facebook tells me if i sign in from an unknown location or from a different computer. Surely Ebay can automatically identify a hacked account if they want. IE seller logs in on computer A in Texas and then someone else all of a sudden signs in on computer B, in Russia. If it was FB, i would get an email.... or a credit card. They spot unusual activity almost instantly.

Yes I agree more could be done by eBay.

IMHO, they must guard the front and back doors better. The big eBay store owners are not a problem; the casual seller is a risk.

Front door - the most common entry point for a scammer is hacking the account due to weak password. Site wide mandatory 2-factor authentication if an eBay’er wants to sell (but has not sold in over a month).

Back door - the less common method is someone harvesting data on a large sweep of sellers. Two factor won’t help since the hijacker has that data, but still can be identified by using forensic netflow comparing unusual trends like you mentioned. Netflow software can filter any level of volume and using AI, identify suspicious trends for humans to investigate. Simply embargo those accounts experiencing the behavior until someone validates authentic user.
