Blancpain
I don't know if my next watch should be a Milgauss, GMT-Master IIc, Daytona or one of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.
Could you guys give me some input, even about the investment value of the Blancpain? |

For investment value you probably be best of buying a Daytona but I find the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms a very handsome watch with a great history and also it's own movement.; The investment value at the moment is probably not so good on the Blancpain but things like that can change(also for Rolex but it seems hard to imagine in the short run). All are great watches though so whitch one do you prefer because I would just go with that and if you keep it long enough(+20 years) they all will be pretty valuable I guess.

The Blancpain FF is one of my all time favorites. They are nearly impossible to buy in Houston. Loooong waiting lists.
I would take a FF over any regular SS Rolex sport watch. |

The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms is one of the best watches ever, I would buy that one if I was able to. I will never own one because I can't spend that kind of money on a watch, but to me, it's the ultimate watch. As far as investment, all watches are horrible investments, keep the money in the bank if that's what your looking for. Go buy one and post some pics. here so I can drool all over myself.

The new Fifty Fathoms Flyback Chrono is, to my eyes, the most amazing watch I have ever seen. Unreal. The Rolex SD (I have an M serial) was my favourite watch for years until I laid my eyes on the Fifty.

Meh. I think they look nice, but for the $$$, give me a Sub or Dweller any day.

Hi,
I don't get these "investment" posts. Collectors control the prices of rare watches by bidding them up at auctions.Of course you have to remember that mostly they are watches that have been out of production for MANY years. If you like a particular piece buy it and if it holds it's value it is a bonus I think you can sell at a premium if there is a long waiting list but that would involve not wearing the piece . Regards Mike. |

I guess you are thinking of flipping it in the future so that you can buy a new watch
That's why you are taking into consideration the value of the watch as an investment

The FF is an AMAZING watch.
Its a good price as its WG. If they ever bring it out in SS I will get one. That is what the Sub was based on. Its a great watch and no watch should be bought as an investment BUT the FF should hold its value pretty well like a Rolex. There is one in the For Sale section here right now by a well known member.

About the investment bit, if it's something i hate doing in life is losing money. Buying a watch for $1000 having only to have a market value of $500 is stupid to me. I like my watches to be bang for buck or at least not lost more than $300 in the eventuality that i have to sell.

I'd get the one you want most. I've seen the BP in several ADs, and know people who have paid less than retail. Therefore, I don't think you would lose on the watch. It certainly is a stunner!

If you go for the BP FF you will got a hell of a watch.
But count it will drop at the half price when you take it home unfortunately. So as a investment (if it is) so will always Rolex be the best choice. I have wait for some time and get a used BP FF. Good luck. Jocke

For some reason I thought the one I was looking at was WG for about 12G
Hmmm, oh well. I will wait a couple years and try to pick a used one up, I hope Jocke is right and I think he will be about the resale.

I've seen a couple of nearly new FFs come up for sale in the $8K range. Hmmm...

But that is how it works. AD buys watch for 2000 sells for 3000 you pay 3000 after 6 months you take it back....He offers you 1500 why??? Because he can still buy a new one for 2000 so why he pay you 2000 for a second hand one ? So you keep it for 3 years and take it back then he offers you 2500. Why? Because a new one now costs him 3000 As for market value you need a crystal ball for that one. Regards Mike. |

Thanks
I was looking at the other ones and missed that. Its a BEAUTIFUL watch, someday I hope to own one but it will have to be second hand. I think the majority of my watches now will be second hand or Grey market. After buying my SD Grey with open papers and saving a very nice amount of $ and avoiding state sales tax I just can't see much of a reason to buy at an AD BUT I can't disagree with those who only buy from an AD.

SS Fifty Fathoms, Retail is $12,200 US. Usually no discount from ADs or the Botique as is a hot seller right now and long waiting list.
I believe the Chrono version is somewhere around $14,000. The Rose Gold Tourbillion versions, if you have to ask what the price is, you do not have enough money to buy! LOL LOL |

I've seen both the chronometer and chronograph in several ADs. In fact, one friend was offered a discount on the chronograph at Tourneau, of all places.

Before the price increase in April, the retail price was $11,100. $8800 sounds like the price for the 2007 Fifty Fathoms models with the older movement that had the 100 hour our reserve, and not the newer models with the Cal. 1315 movement, 125 hr power reserve and anti-magnetic case.
