Hulk or SD4k?

Looking at both of these references for my next purchase. I like them both, I previously owned a ceramic black submariner date and really enjoyed it, but I’ve always had an affinity for the green Hulk and SD SD4K as well.

Interested in people with experiences having worn both the SD4K and the Hulk. I have never tried on a SD, but I owned a planet ocean in the past so I’m not necessarily opposed to a slightly thicker watch.

This thread is not about me asking you whether I should buy something or not, ultimately, I will make my own decision.

I’m interested in the ownership experiences regarding both.

Thanks

I've owned both. I got more enjoyment out of the LV. The sunburst dial and green bezel take on so many different hues depending on lighting.
Not taking anything away from the SD4k though.

I own them both, and have since the 1st year each of them went into production. If I had to pick just one…and I definitely have I suppose by my wearing habits, I would say the 116600 is the obvious choice. Don’t get me wrong…the Hulk is an absolutely beautiful watch and I have very much enjoyed magical effects of its Sunburst dial in the various lighting. But the SD ceramic is just so versatile w/ its silhouetted dimensions and Satin dial, not to mention how classic it looks w/ the elevated crystal! Additionally…I should add that I believe you will find it much less “thick” in the way it wears than you may be concerned with. I find it wears very similar to the original 16610 Sub’s actually…and certainly less chunky and clunky than the “Maxi-Case” of the 116610’s! I should also mention that these days I primarily wear the 116600 on either a Black, Red (or sometimes orange or blue) NATO. although some have complained about the tolerances making it harder to install a NATO ON THE 116600, I have found an exceptionally easy way to do it, and based on dimensions etc, it looks really cool on a NATO. Perhaps better than any other Sub I’ve seen!

I have owned both. The LV is far more unique and interesting. That is the only watch I have ever sold that I regret getting rid of. I also found the SD4K to wear funny on my wrist. The height to length didn’t really gel with me.

The Hulk is a green submariner and the SD4K is a black diver beyond the capacities of a regular Submariner. Prices are also a little more for the Hulk. With that said I would go Hulk if a regular Submariner did not work for you.

SD4k. Not a Hulk fan. That SD with its size, case profile, matte dial, and graduated bezel is a thing of beauty.

I’ve owned both and would, if things aligned, would 10/10 buy the SD4K over the hulk again

However the Cermit vs SD4K is another kettle of fish and would take some thought.

I carried my friend's SD4k - a great diver "on steroids". However, I bought Hulk last year and this is my recommendation for the questioner.

Definetly SD4K for me. If forced to choose only one from my Rolex line up, it would be the SD4K, over either of my 2 tone 5 digit subs, WG Sub or WG Day Date. As jfmiii says,
"its size, case profile, matte dial, and graduated bezel is a thing of beauty."
It is a wear for everything, do anything watch for me. The LV is a nice looking watch, but I would quickly tire of the green.

I’ve owned both as well. SD4K for me. I didn’t enjoy the green sunburst dial. The Starbucks is more of my speed. The SD4K wears great, love the case size and the fully graduated bezel. Love the clean look of the matte dial and no cyclops. It’s the one Rolex I’m trying to get back in my collection, just as soon as the right deal comes along.

I had to make a decision on both these references in 2017 and chose the Hulk. The SD4k left me rather underwhelmed.

I’d go with the LVC.

I’ve had horrible luck getting any Sea Dweller to sit comfortably on my wrist. YMMV

Tough one!! I owned the Hulk a couple times and I LOVED that watch.... I wish I would have kept it.

With that said, I would go with a SD4K - I rebuilt my entire collection around the idea that my fun watches must be under $5K - Anything above that price point should be understated and "classic"

Both are incredible watches and you're going to want both at some point.

I have both. The Hulk is more comfortable on the wrist but the SD4K is still my favorite watch. If I could only keep one, it would be the SD4K.

If I was choosing out of those two, I’d go SD4k.

Really easy for me…. There are several Sea-Dweller generations, including the 5 series which tops the SK4k (IMHO), but only one 116610LV. Oh, and the 116610LV’s dial……

The SD4K is a bullet proof choice. I’ve never been a fan of the green tone on the Hulk or the sunburst dial on what’s supposed to be a true tool watch.

The height of the SD4K hides itself well and having owned both it was a far better wearer than the Planet Ocean.

If I were you I’d grab an SD4K and the green Seamaster 300 Pro. Can get both for just a scratch more than a Hulk and Omega killed the green hue - on rubber with deployant is the way to go.

Let us know what you decide.

Hulk and SD43 if you have a flat wrist over 6.7+. SD4K too thick for its size, disproportionate. Only being hyped because of 3 year production hoping to raise price more.

Eye of the beholder. I love the 116610LV and by happy coincidence it fits me perfectly. The SD is way too big, heavy and unbalanced on my little arms. YMMV.

I like the sd4k. Pretty much everything I’d want in a sport watch. It is a bit heavier than a sub but I like the heft.

I own both and they both can be comfortable in one’s collection. Two very different divers as they wear and feel very different on the wrist. Not sure as to which I would call my favorite but I’d try both on and decide if I had to make the either/or decision. Good luck and let us know what you decide!
