Well the Dutch must love HAM - the cheering was audible above the engines.

Thanks - I forgot everyone outside US needs to go to SkySports.

For the “rest of the story”,

Several minutes into the second practice session the Zandvoort crowd, almost at full capacity for free practice, erupted like a football stadium witnessing a late winner.

You didn't need to be near a screen to work out why -- Lewis Hamilton was out of FP2 with an engine issue.

So it was the left-handed type of love I guess.

In FP1, VET had engine failure and he gave a poor impression of a fire fighter when trying to put it out single-handed. Oops…

God bless the Dutch. If only that happens in the race or better yet his former teammate BOT puts him into the wall.

VPN... tho I subscribe to F1, love the fun extras. Yeah, the crowd really loved HAM

Imho that track is too darn narrow. I love how technical it is, yet about 10 feet too narrow. jmho

It’s the cars that got too wide
Passing is going to be difficult at best. And expect some (much) STS MTM.

Porsche Supercup practice was fun to watch. I think the F3 race with 30 cars will be the busiest - their Qually was inspiring. But very crowded at times.

Kimi out due to +Covid test.
No symptoms but can’t return for the weekend. Kubica in the car for FP3.

Yes - unless he can test negative twice over the next couple of days and again within 72 hours of transit to Monza.

Logistically possible only if the recent test was a fluke mistaken result.

It may be great for qualifying but I’m less convinced about race day. May be a Monaco style procession.

Happy to be proved wrong !!

The 2 F3 races have had lots of passing. Not the same power/brakes of course - but says a lot about the track. They also don’t have mandatory pit stops for tire changes.

In the 2 DRS zones and on the 3 banked turns, those drivers (30 on track) made plenty of passes.

I noticed something due to the narrowness in some track segments. There was a good deal of contact where tires were cutdown.

So, basically, it's a first corner race.

It was actually nice for it to be fairly uneventful for once. Happy to see Max take it.

Yes it did turn out as many predicted.

But one advantage was the crowd. The promoter packed them in, hyped the race and kept the fans stirred up.

When was last time we saw such a thing!!! What a celebration of motorsports.

I mentioned this before but Gasly needs to leave the RB camp when his contract is up. The odds of Marko and Horner putting him back into RB are virtually 0.

It's a foregone conclusion that Russell will be in the Merc next year.

Sounds like just ironing out the contract details.

Lewis will have some serious competition.

Sounds like the details being ironed out are on Bottas's side and wherever he goes (most likely Alfa). Toto has mentioned already that he doesn't want to have anything announced until all drivers are settled and have a ride next year. I'm taking this to mean Bottas's situation is was being worked out.

What am I missing with Botas getting replaced? He is always taking top spots even if not wins. Bad luck but very consistent and putting up points.

Russell is obviously faster than Bottas, he is younger and hungrier, and seen as the future for the Merc team.

Yes Bottas is a good foil for Hamilton, but Mercedes no longer has the luxury of being the fastest car and need the 2 best drivers they can get. Even if that means having to manage drivers being on the same piece of tarmac.

It certainly will be interesting to watch Hamilton and Russell 'compete'..which they will be doing. Russell doesn't want to be the #2 man to Hamilton and needs to prove his worth for when Hamilton pulls the plug, probably after his 8th DC. This year will tell, coz next year is a whole different ball of wax with the new cars etal...imo.

When Mercedes asked Bottas today if he could go any faster and he said nope basically sums up why he’s being replaced. If Bottas could lap faster, Mercedes would’ve won this race with a 2 vs 1 advantage. Instead Max ran him down and overtook him in like 1 or 2 laps barely putting up a fight.

Bottas is good enough to accumulate points but isn’t really good enough to provide support for Mercedes to get the race win.

I don't know what was going on with Bottas yesterday.
He couldn’t drive fast and he couldn’t defend on a narrow track? He was driving like he had damage.
Next year will be interesting. Big changes or big hype?
