Help me find my dream PAM

Hello, forum Paneristi,

I’ve been on the lookout for my perfect combo dream PAM but can’t seem to nail it so I need your help:

1. It has to be 44mm (eventually larger but not ideal);
2. It has to have a steel case for wrist presence (not Titanium) and the shape similar to PAM00111 (square sides, see below):

3. It has to have the date function/complication;
4. Preferably automatic but not a must, ETA or inhouse doesn’t matter;
5. Idealy it would have a domed crystal;
6. Black dial (eventually blue but not ideally), so it can be a daily driver if we click one another;
7. Idealy a clean dial, no GMT hands or other complications cluttering the space there;
8. Maybe an open back?
9. Can I also hope for a centered large seconds hand? I’ve seen some PAMs having it but with what’s above, I feel that’s too much to ask.

Anyway, here’s my dream PAM, please help me find it.
Your help is really appreciated.

Cheers,
B.

With that case (Bettarini style) + date + (ideally) automatic, the 104 or 164 are two options that come to mind. Both are SS, too.

With your specs, you will not find a domed crystal like a 127 or 233 (there will be a little distortion at angle on the 104/164 (like in your photo above) but not a true “dome”). Central seconds are rare. The 27 has one, but it also has a PR indicator on the dial, which you said you didn’t want.

Enjoy the hunt! I’m sure you will enjoy whatever you choose.

Both 104 and 164 are viable candidates but I’m not very fond of cyclop over date. Any idea of one without?

Not with Bettarini and auto/date. If you want Bettarini and can live without a date and live with manual, you have a lot more options (000, 005, 111, 390…).

Thank you for your suggestions, it’s been really helpful.

Maybe touching all those specs in just one watch is too much. Maybe it’s worth considering break it into two watches. Case in which that 390 is a candidate I will strongly consider.

Here’s a pic of the 390 I found online, Eye Candy for others landing in this thread.

Any idea of a similar 390 but black dial? This one seems something of a brown tone.

Closest would probably be a 112.

For recent models, maybe look at the 914 or 915?

I think I’ll start with an older ref, simply because those used to have clasp vs buckle on the newer.

This was me a few years ago. I’m not sure you’ll find everything on your list. There aren’t that many domes on 44mm, and they are on the 1950 case (most famous being 233 which has a number of complications). In fact I started with a 390, but couldn’t get past the tobacco dial and closed back. I then added a 233, but like you wanted something more in tune with the original brand.
I now have an early 112 Base, black dial,exhibition back and the desirable decorated movement. For me it’s perfection.

Pam 104. Try to find a Gen 1 case with the upgraded lugs that have the quick strap change adjustment.

Ive always loved the Panerai watches. Anyone able to point me to a resource for learning the basics on them?
