5712 Steel vs Rose Gold

Most people would sway towards the SS versions of many brands as they hold value the best, are easier to flip and most importantly can be obtained at a lower price point (Considerably less)

However, after waiting for quite some time, it seems like hopes for the 5712/1a are slim in this day and age and I would have higher chances of getting the 5712r.

There is a huge price discrepancy between SS models vs PM models for many brands and models. However, for these particular pieces, the price difference is only $5000USD. Minimal compared the difference between such in other brands.

Should I go ahead and make the call to my AD and switch to the 5712r instead of the 5712/1a?

What are your thoughts?

The price difference is small as Patek claims a lot of work is involved in the finishing of Nautilus bracelets. Not certain but despite the high price of Nautilus as compared with PM models, they sell like hot cakes.

Im on the list for both...I have a feeling I'll get the R before the 1A, so there goes.

The 1A is just so much more beautiful. If they made it into a 1R I'd be fiending to get that on my wrist. The R doesnt have as much appeal to me with that leather strap. Maybe if I pop on a RubberB strap it'd sing to me.

Yes! That would be the way to go for sure, especially on that white Rubber B band

Nautilus w/o bracelet is like a plane w/o wings - doesn't fly IMHO.

In my view the strap turns any Nautilus into a pretty ugly piece - I just couldn't wear it, no offense intended of course. For me either a Calatrava on strap (or Aquanaut on rubber) or a Nautilus on bracelet, but nothing in between. Interest in the strap versions seems driven by availability, just like in your case, and will likely disappear again if the bubble deflates just a little. The only strap piece w a true following might be the 5980R as some people find the /1R too heavy.

I prefer the SS but if that really is a goner then might as well switch if you do like the RG as well.

I think that's harsh, the Nautilus strap in chocolate brown is very smooth and classy, esp on a slim Nautilus, really dresses it up nicely. Nicer quality and wearability than AP RO straps. The composite strap doesn't add much I grant you.

Nope, nope, nope. The 5712 1A is well worth waiting for imo. For me, I would not spend that kind of dough on a piece I am not really really excited about- patience is a virtue! Be anxious for nothing.

Just my opinion, but I can't help I find that combination of Nautilus case and strap not attractive, no matter how smooth and classy the strap is by itself. I admit I'd never want a Nautilus on a strap but what irritates me most is how the strap is attached w what looks like a leftover center link of the bracelet. I'd prefer if they had fully integrated the strap into the case itself. Too each their own of course...

I think the Nautilus bracelet is half of the charm of the Nautilus, and would hate to settle.

you are spending lot of money so stick to your most favorite/original preference. I personally would only get Nautilus with bracelet.

My bias is towards bracelets, so Patek forces my hand, unfortunately. :(

#realtalk LOL! (I wouldn’t say they are ugly but I also do not care for them unless they have a bracelet. In the past ADs could not give away the 12G and R and now make it as if they are giving the client a grail piece when they offer these versions )

I own the 12g and 12a. If i had to select one, it would be the 12a, imo opinion one of the best watches ever made by any manufacturer. But the 12g and 12r are beautiful watches in their own right. If I were you, I would buy the 12r with the understanding you will keep your place on the list of the 12a. You can afterwards always sell the 12r (would keep it for 2y not to end up in difficulty with your AD).

The steel being like silk on the wrist feeling is the truly special part of a Nautilus to me

Passed on the R multiple times while waiting for the SS. Zero regrets aside from the financial aspect (i.e. it would have been nice to buy an R, enjoy and flip for profit while waiting), but a lot changed in one year. A Nautilus does not work on a strap IMO. The bracelet is an inseverable part of the charm of it, plus the strap is very inflexible and uncomfortable.

5712r. The leather strap makes this a fantastic option for dress and casual occasions.

Get the one you keep getting drawn too. I wore a 5712/1a and the price was amazing. I wanted to love it so badly, I really did but the 5712r just did it for me. They are two totally diff pieces for two totally diff types of people. Don’t listen to all the crap about pateks only looking good on a bracelet. I have a 5980/1r which is a bracelet piece and a 5712r on strap and I love them both! Steel is great if you’re trying to fly under the radar or prefer being subtle. I just think why be subtle? To each their own though
