Thank you fort he time and effort to provide us with such an informative and enjoyable piece. Your review, along with other factors, suveeded in pushing me over the edge to a white dial 116520.

Super review, but I still think the ZENITH Daytona has a much nicer looking dial...
The other things the new model has are not enough to make me want to change my Zenith for the New model...But a great review no the less...Well done...

To add to my review, here is a small overview over the changes that the Daytona 11652x with inhouse movt has seen some seen since year 2000:

  1. From year 2000 until year 2005: Parachrom hairspring but NOT the blued version. The blue version came with the D-series in year 2005.

    See this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E3lE...layer_embedded

And in the below Rolex documents, you get it "straight from the horse's mouth" that the Parachrom hairspring wasn't blue initially:

  2. "Skinny" (thin) hands on the Daytona 11652x from year 2000 to around 2003/2004 (mid to late F-series). After the mid-late F-series, the hands got fatter.
  3. RBR (Rolex Branded Rehaut) from the Z-series ("ROLEXROLEX" and serial number on rehaut round the dial).
  4. Removal of the green caseback sticker and and introduction of the "credit card" style certificate; also with the Z-series.
  5. From around the late M-series / early V-series: Daytona gets an updated clasp, the same style as the one seen on the GMT II 116710; i.e.: springloaded tip instead of a "button" that the clasp snaps holds onto via friction fit.

OLD-style 116520 clasp:

NEW-style 116520 clasp (same style as the GMT II 11671x):

My Daytona is not even a month old yet. I almost bought one in 2007, but got a Yacht Master instead. Im glad I waited. The new style clasp and the easylink is awesome. I got the black face, but always wonder if the white would be easier to read.

Being a new style Daytona owner I really appreciate this review. I also owned a 1999 A serial 16520, sold it, after 3 years of not having a Daytona I'm really happy to have the newer movt, some things I like about the Zenith but more things about the in house. I think the chrono mechanism is much easier to push and the bracelet is far better. Both were white dials. I also pocketed $500 from selling the Zenith to get the 116520. Plus the A serial
would have been 13 years old and if I serviced it, it wouldn't be cheap.

Hey Bo, great to see you around TRF! Great review of the Daytona. I personally like the
Daytona with the Zenith movement. Very precise, gorgeous dial...but I know all the technical people like the new in house movement. Call me outdated, outmoded, outnumbered....but I think the older watch is tres chic and cooler than the new Daytonas, plus they're out of production!

Best,
Dan

hi,

I got a z series, starting with 158### and without the rehaut "rolexrolex...",
with green sticker....
without a card...

is it ok? maybe rolex started that, not at the first z serial?

The change to non-green sticker, engraved rehaut and plastic card certificate happened sometime in the Z-series, not sure when exactly.

I think this might be the last year for the current Daytona, Im sure they will release a new model for the 50th anniversary and discontinue the old like they have with the seadweller etc
