I typically prefer watches that are larger/look larger, yet somehow after wearing the 5970 for a while now, i feel like the size/look is perfect for its aesthetic; a jewelry piece of sorts.

i like the 5970 dial better. I HATE the chin on the 5270's. I also hate where the sub dials are. These are minor to most but are a big deal to me. In my mind the 5970 series may be the best watches ever made. The dial designs are perfect as is the case size IMHO. I don't think its gets better than that.

I prefer the 5970; although, I doubt I'll ever be able to truly make the decision to buy one.

Will be interesting. The 5790 prices have softened some recently.

5970 and 5070 have soften about 10/15 %. But, that may just be US market. Although the recent HK auction wasn't so hot.

Interesting. Noticed it on 5070 but not sensed any reduction in asking prices on 5970. Of course chrono24 never tells the full story but just monitoring the websites of some of the specialists in this type of piece.

Price on 5970r and p is very solid from my point of view. The j and g are a bit weak recently, less popular apparently.

Finally saw the 2015 blue dial 5270 in the flesh; I think it is now pretty close to perfection (just the sub-equator subsidiary dials that remain a very small annoyance to my eyes) and they have sorted out the Series 1 and Series 2 dial weaknesses effectively. Sadly I didn't get any photos, but I will definitely consider getting one. The AD also had the white dial version, blue preferred over that for sure, but not seen RG version yet. It was still sealed, so I wasn't able to see the naked blue dial, but it did look a little different from 5070P and 5100G I have previously owned, and also very different to the 5140P.

The new blue dial 5270G-019 with no chin

It is hard for me to choose between it and the 5270R

Sorry to bump this, but curious if you heard any rumblings about the 5270R being discontinued at the upcoming Basel? I recently heard from an AD (whatever that's worth) that it will. Given the two 3rd generation WG versions (blue dial and white dial) were discontinued last year, it seems plausible. And, IIRC, the two 3rd generation WG versions had a 3 year production run, and this is the 3rd year of the RG.

These are all over my head, but damn are they beautiful. Not a lot of wrong choices here! The blue dial is beautiful, but the cream ones have a nice vintage look.

I googled these watches as I was reading this thread, not realizing it was a couple of years old. Seems prices have come down, although they aren't quite giving them away.

Will they do a p first, you think?

The 5970 has such a cleaner look. It's near perfect. I don't think they will discontinue without a new PCC.

I like the layout of the non-chin 5270 more than the 5970 with the day/night indicator and leap year displays. Plus in-house, etc. If I won the lottery, 5270G blue dial would be my first pick.

But my money would still be on the 5970 as the one that will retain its value.

They have a P, although with diamonds in the 5271. And they haven’t done a J yet. So, I’m not sure if they will discontinue the 5270 line just yet, but I was wondering about the R specifically given its 3 year run and the suggestion earlier in the thread that it would not be produced in large numbers.

Hear, hear! All this research and noodling about what’s next is getting me closer to that inevitably!

As an owner of the 5270r, which along with many current non-sports model Pateks not doing great in the aftermarket, I was disappointed last year when it was not discontinued with the 2 WG versions. We shall see what 2018 Basel brings...

Check out the prices on the 5270 used. Just hovering over 100K. The 5970s are 30K higher. I would definitely buy the 5270r used. The best value of all them is the 5970P. They are close to 200K.

I'm actually surprised that people prefer the 5270 over the older piece. It means some "sense" is creeping in; The newer model's movement is superior and display and dial is far cleaner.
Above all, I guess it's the fact that the new piece is a touch larger.

I wish TS would cut production. It would give his customers more confidence to go for the newer pieces.

Going off on a tangent I actually think the first gen 5270G is the nicest of the whole bunch.
