Vintage Tudor Oyster with Shockresisting in one word?

Hello everyone.

I'm new to this forum and looking at buying a Tudor Oyster Royal. It's a really nice watch and in great condition. The only thing is that it has the word Shockresisting written in a single word at the bottom. Is this normal? I've seen many pictures with the word separated written Shock-resisting but never in a single word.

Would love any help since this would be my first vintage Tudor (second vintage watch) and don't want to make a mistake.

Thank you for having a look and helping.

Cool watch but ....

Welcome Jonatan,

I'm thinking your watch may have a refinished dial - albeit reasonably authentic and attractive enough. Perhaps an old refinish.

The similar period Tudor Oyster Royal's do seem to have the SHOCK RESISTING , rather than SHOCKRESISTING scrip - as you've noted.
Although in true Rolex / Tudor fashion, there are just so many dial variations out there it's difficult to research.

On your dial, the clumsy alignment of the battens and the lume dots adds weight to the idea that it's a refinished dial.
Although, the SWISS text, suggesting an early dial is in its rightful place at 6:00 o'clock. That's often missing from refinished dials

Can you tell us the model number ? Usually stamped between the lugs and perhaps something like 7934.
Alternately, a number stamped on the edge of the case back may help us.

It's a lovely watch.

Looking at the age of the hands and their minor corrosion, it is very likely that this watch has been restored and the dial refinished.

The back doesn't have the usual writing on it also! Is that normal to have such a plain back and not the usual Tudor inscription?

By the way, great forum.

T'is AOK brother ....

Seems most 7934's do have the engraved case-back ...Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva ... but others have the same case back as you have.

Photo-bucket seems to be on the fritz just now but here's a couple of links. All 7934's with different dials but they but they have the plain case back ...

I don't think it's been refinished because of that shadow at 8h30.

Yip, that does look like a lume burn ...

I noticed that mark - usually a sign that the watch has sat unused for some time .
If the lume from a hand has tainted the dial, you'd usually expect two such marks though - hour and minute hand.
So, there's possibly a similar mark elsewhere on the dial.

That's me being pedantic - looks like a great watch and a textured dial really is a cool feature.
An early dress Tudor can really be set off by a jubilee bracelet too.

The early Tudor's can look great on a steel band.

i hope it was cheap. the dial is the most important part on a watch.

Even though its refinished it still looks nice.
