Kevin O'Leary Interview and Collection (Rolex, AP, Patek)

Just came across this vid and watched it. Did a search and I don't think this has been posted here yet (it was just uploaded on YT yesterday)

Kevin's definitely a polarizing character here both in personality and his philosophy on watches as investments but wanted to share.

He talks about how involved and knowledgeable he is in the industry and hobby but not sure how much is actually is. I don't doubt he has relationships with some of the brands like he talks about.

On another topic, I've seen some of Teddy's (interviewer) videos before and it seems like he has been steadily growing his subscriber base (in a relatively short amount of time) and polarizing guest or not - it is definitely a pretty high caliber individual to have on his channel.

I have high respect to Kevin in Shark Tank, generally is the guest that coincide more with my point of view about investments.
I do not coincide that much as a watch enthusiast: it seems that most of the watches are there just because are hard to get, I do not like that red rubber bands for a formal wear.
I really like that AP on the red leather strap and fits much better than the red rubber.

He's said a lot of weird stuff about getting his dream watch the Nautilus, for someone like him the struggle is not real.

That Nautilus story was complete BS. He joined the waitlist at the absolute bottom of the recession - he should’ve gotten that watch within weeks or months, not a decade.

What I suspected for a long time, Rolex and now PP/AP are more about prestige and status . How else could one explain that for years many of these SS pieces sat in cases. People wanted Rolex realize that well these are hard to get, but wow the PP ss models are even harder to get. The reality is, sorry the PP so called sport offerings are not versatile at all and stuck with the 70’s vibe styling. Nothing wrong with that but I would venture that 80% if buyers would walk on by if it did not have the Pp label on it, and indeed buyers did until the instabook told them they would be envied if they bought it.

Shame is, PP makes some of the best chronos ever made, but people walk on by those pieces because the instabook tells them no, the chronos will not make you stand out and are not prestigious enough.

He was also calling it the 5771 or something like that, dyslexic or not that just doesn't ring true of a dream watch.

This is a different video than what you just linked that was just posted 1 day ago on YT

Would be helpful if you actually read the thread / clicked on the video before replying to it

Too bad he puts those red rubber straps on ALL of them. I can see maybe one. A bit eccentric IMO.

I don’t think he’s ever been on a waitlist

For someone who in terms of business is generally quite aware, and as a result pretty arrogant, Kevin O'Leary seemed rather clueless about what goes on in the watch world and what it takes to build an AD "relationship", especially with one like Tourneau, in NY. And his apparent lack of awareness certainly didn't prevent him from letting his ego loose lol. Also, those red bands are yuck, especially on that Jumbo and the hulk. uggh. But overall, an entertaining interview with an entertaining personality.

His complete fabrication of this episode shows he is just pumping his investment.

Eight years! Haha.

The 5711 was an under list resale watch and a discount on a 5712 was standard on a new one during this time frame.

Can't stand the guy but appreciate his love for watches. Strange as an investor he loves the color red. Guess he's not superstitious.

Also heard he was pressuring ADs and grey dealers hard on discounts to wear their watches on CNBC and Shark Tank. Guess AP caved and finally found someone to wear the code 11:59. Makes me like the watch even less and it wasn't much to start with.

Edit: okay maybe I take back not liking him after he said "put an apple watch on your wrist and you'll burn in hell". haha

Well, he loves the investment value more than watches. Just don't tell me he's in it for anything more than it being the 'it' collectible hobby for celebs...

Ask him what happened to his ghosted Panerais on red straps.

Better than his previous video where he looked like a fool ... Julian bracelet indeed...

Nice "collequcion" but Teddy hit him with the truth multiple times and he didnt listen.

YES a 5711 is an amazing investment piece IF you can buy one at retail BUT if you are a billionaire you by pass that ... BUT making £20k on that 5711 at retail for said billionaire would be like a normal person making £50 selling a watch.

Mere mortals dont play in these arenas

Great interview. Great collection. The red straps? I have started doing the same thing. I have orange lining in all my straps. His red straps are also only for TV. He also ONLY wears black suits with a black tie. He only wears french cuff shirts with a collar bar.

The Code 11.59 is amazing on the Red!

And if you are reading this Kevin, I have an RM for you. It has a red strap!!

I like Kevin on Shark Tank, but a few months ago I watched some of his videos on YouTube about watch collecting. It was so cringeworthy as he didn't know what he was talking about.

I had never heard of him until this video, seems to know nothing about horology/watches. This gives me the impression he knows nothing about investments either, but is an expert in public sales/marketing of his image.

IMO, total fake.

His knowledge about horology may be questionable but is no doubt an entrepreneur / businessman

He's probably most well known for being on the ABC tv show "Shark Tank"

I think the red bands are meant to go with the red pocket squares and red ties. Everyone knows the meaning they convey!

He's without a doubt a successful businessman and now seems like he wants to be a showman and this is probably part of the "character" at least that's my perception.

Agree, I just assumed his AD hated him or mr wonderful blew off a business idea he/she had.
