Agreed. Part of what makes it quintessential Rolex. I have the DJ II and like it, but I don't love it. I am getting the 36 on a jubilee next once I can find one with the gold bezel and silver stick dial.

I have a 7 1/2" wrist and wore a DJ36 daily for 15 years quite happily until I came on the forums. "Had" to then have a Sub Date (40mm) so put the DJ36 in the safe. Putting it back on 4 weeks later it looked tiny. Far to small to wear again, so then had to trade it for a DJ41 (which measures 39.84mm across the case by my precise measurement).

Some comparison shots...

By the way, after 5 months daily wear the new DJ41 is keeping time precisely to the second. That's right, dead on time. It did get a few seconds fast at one point about two months ago so I left it on its side, crown up, overnight for a week or so. I now leave it overnight on its side crown down and it keeps time perfectly.

the DJ36 is still the better looking watch. fluted/oyster combination wears larger too. the DJ41 is a good watch, but that bezel is still just too obnoxious for my taste. same with the DD40 vs DD36.

Man, it is close for me. They are both beautiful watches in their own right, but I think if it came down to it I would be leaning 36. It is more than just its size, the sum of its parts is a timeless product that looks classy on anyone’s wrist, period.

I really love my GMT which is a 40, so a dressier 36 datejust would make s perfect compliment to it.

Although I don’t think you can go wrong between either of them

You know what they say ummmmm ......... " bigger is better " and I'd have to agree

I agree! I'm a big man with 7.75" wrists and wear XXXL gloves so the 36mm looks like a nickel on my wrist. Been looking at the 41 to go in my collection.

Here's my take.. I've owned a 16200 white stick smooth on an oyster and now own a 126300 smooth white stick also on an oyster. The 36mm is way to small for even me 210 5'11" 7ish wrist average old guy. I purchased the 36 DJ for my son and he gave it back after a year for an Apple watch just not his thing.Tried to like it but just to small. I was really hesitant to buy the 41 but now after owning it for about a month I made the correct choice. Really wish Rolex would have carried on the few things that the 31 & 36 DJ has that I think would have made the 41 stick dial perfect,,, railroad track second outter circle with roman numerals and the Roulette date wheel.

36 all the way. As mentioned above, the hidden clasp is all the rage. Everyones doing it.

All those posts of people mentionning 36mm or 41 makes no sense if they do not provide wrist sizing.
I'm really torn between the 36mm and 41mm (39.5 really) DJ on my 6.5 inch wrist.
Having tried both on, they both look good :D

Depends on your wrist size. I tried both and DJ41 was the clear choice. I also think, the 41 has better proportions and less cluttered dial but, either one is an iconic watch so, you will not go wrong either way.

Both are nice.
One is a classic, the other will be as well.
For my current likes, I prefer the 41.
Don’t own any watches smaller than 40mm.

Love my 36

I have it on oyster but I would love to one day have the jubilee with hidden clasp

That's the thing about the prior reference 36's - 3 options not included in new reference;

hidden clasp on jubilee
roulette date wheel
railroad track w/ roman numerals

also - 3135 movement, considered by most WIS' as *the* workhorse Rolex movement

Good luck

I have both on oyster. A 36 from the 70's and a new 41 which I like better on my 7" flat wrist. It barely feels like it's 40mm to me.

They made the 41 because women were rockin the 36. So as Arnold would say, "the 36 is a girly watch".

Men who worry that a 36 would insult their manhood are like men who need to drive red sports cars

When I see a guy wearing a dinner plate on his wrist I see over-compensation

When I see a guy with 8" wrists wearing a 34 or 36mm watch I know he's a confident man

Maybe you see things differently -

We all see what we want to see.

They made the 41 because men were wanting larger watches because that's the current trend. That trend is true for women too, which is why they are moving up in watch size.

The real answer isn't which is better, but which is better for you. I have a 36mm and it is absolute, 100% better (for me) than the 41mm. The 41mm is too big, objectively. For other people, the exact opposite is true.

I will say:
- the hidden clasp jubilee is objectively better
- the roulette date wheel is objectively better

Good news!!! You can't make a bad choice. Either one, 36 or 41, or better yet both. The watch that Rolex is built on.
