Who finds the Speedmaster difficult to wind?

I love my SpeedMaster Racing but I do find it my most difficult watch to wind.

I had the same problem. I found that using silicone finger protectors (from amazon) on my index finger helped a lot. The silicone provides a great grip, and protects my finger especially with stiff crowns.
I also found that a single protector may not work so well as it may snag on the crown while winding. Doubling the protector solves the problem. Winding is now easy for me. I hope this helps.

Back when I had a Speedmaster, I remember having to use my t-shirt to grip the crown to wind it. I tried to keep it consistent and wind it in the morning right before I left for work, and in the cold mornings it would be a real pain on my fingers.

I’ve heard this claim many times and can honestly say I don’t find it difficult to wind. It’s my only manual wind so can’t really compare but I’ve never had difficulty winding mine.

not easy nor is it hard, once u get used to winding it, it will be fine...

Yeah it’s doable. But it’s always a chore and never a pleasure. Quite unique for a manual wind.

I don't have the Professional, but the Racing, and it's a pain to wind. Really wish it had a larger crown.

Yup. I understand that some are easier than others. Mine was a chore so I passed it along.

Yes, this is a great life hack. Slide your index finger up and down behind the crown, you'll get it fully wound in no time.

Otherwise, I agree it's not easy to wind. The DSOTM I owned was much better at this department.

I wore one speedmaster or another for 20 years. I really kind of liked the winding. Not a problem. However, been wearing a sub daily / nightly, a ton these last 9 months. When I go back to my speedy, it seems like a chore....

Why pinch the crown? Easiest way is to just roll your finger on the underside.

I take mine off to wind and have no issue that way, but can’t wind it while wearing it. Quite enjoy winding it.

i dearly miss my 145.012 but do recall winding wasn't the easiest. i would slide my thumb across the top, no chance gripping it.
but my skyfall has a huge crown and it is almost crunchy to wind. took it to my local watchsmith, who is usually really good, and he said it's normal and fine. just hesitant to bring it in for an expensive service

Another tip, make sure your thumb fingernail isn’t too long, as if makes contact with the bezel when you are winding then it reduces the leverage you get on the crown. Have found that even a very slightly long thumb nail can make it harder.

I have the First Omega in Space, this is much earlier than the Professional to wind as no crown guards getting in the way.
