Think even at $25k any DRSD full set will look like it'd been sat on by a donkey, there are some reasonable mk4s around but I don't know if they're quite that reasonable.

if you are talking good problem free examples

mk1 drsd ...patent pending $100-140k. (b&P getting close to 200k)
mk2 --patent pending - $50- 75k (b&P add 40-50%)
mk2 - std - 40-60k (b&P add 40-50%)
mk3 - 25-35k ( B&P add 40 -50%)......

NOS on any of those add 50%

new old stock :)..

some folk specialize in collecting NOS and as they are super rare they are also super priced.

ps. still think you need to up the drsd mk4 limits...if i went out looking for a good one id be allowing 35k happily for a set....and its the little thing like 2000m anchors that cost $1500 alone that make all the difference.

Not sure where you are going to find a full set 5512 for under $15k either. And if you are talking about an early gilt in mint condition--you can get the dial alone-LOL!! Change that to a 5513 IMHO. Where is the tropical category? LOL

Oky guys, updating list. Do see MK4's swinging quite a bit with a full set recently going for 27k with one of the recommended sellers but then guess a completely detailed full set in pristine condition with anchors et al could go for much more so updating range from 25-35K. A full set 5512 is currently on auction, lets see how much it goes for.

0-15K USD
1) Feet first Red submariner 1680 Full set
2) Mid series 1655 Full set
3) zenith daytonas Full set
4) 5512 Full set

15-25K USD
1) Meters first Red submariner 1680 Full set
2) First series straight hand 1655 Full set

25-35K USD
1) Double red sea dweller Full set (mostly MK4. refer Footnote1 for MK1, 2 and 3 prices)

Footnote1:
mk1 drsd ...patent pending $100-140k. (b&P getting close to 200k)
mk2 --patent pending - $50- 75k (b&P add 40-50%)
mk2 - std - 40-60k (b&P add 40-50%)
mk3 - 25-35k ( B&P add 40 -50%)......
NOS on any of those add 50%

Full set 5512 is like saying there is a Porsche 911 on auction now. One could be a 1996 air coooled 993 turbo w/ 10k miles on it and the other could be a 2004 911 with 100k miles on it. The 96' 993 worth close to a $100k and the 04' worth little in comparison. The price variance between 5512's is huge--try finding a 60-61 gilt dial with CR in mint condition vs. cheap ones that come to market. When pricing watches or making comparisons one has to be specific to variation/reference/year etc.

yup, to be clear i meant a nice matte 70's 5512 ...not a gilt !!

and if you use ebay as your benchmark...you will always find cheaper on there ...but ive said it before and ill say it again ....you get what you pay for :)

Exactly-If you are looking for high quality pieces you are not going to find them on Ebay-sorry gents! The true mintiest pieces are scooped up right away and best sellers/collectors I know don't list on Ebay unless it is the bottom of their stock. As I have said many times--the best watches are traded hands privately and ones that are super mint which do make it to market are gone in minutes IMHO.

That's true Ken, I think the one on auction is a 1970 one, on my iPhone so can't multitask much but will post the link, is on eBay bit being sold by Mark. True the 60s ones will be dearer. So what year/ price range would a gilt sub come under and what range a year specific 5512? Are gilts subsets under 5512s., why are they called gilt? Will add in 5513 too later to the list.
Cheers

i really mean this in the nicest way cruvon...but none of this is as black or white as you are hoping to make it ...if you really want to get a feel for it before spending money there really is no 'quick ' way in ...spend a few months reading on here and on the vrf ...stalk the dealers sites, and sales corners and ebay..try and see the differences between the things that sell high and those that sell low...look for the faults etc ...and get your own feel for it all...honestly in the long run its the best way...

the best tool in most of the well seasoned collectors box is ...........patience.

Lets be honest if any of us found the right piece and that it came with the correct B&P's along with other relvant information that was specific to the watch, then you're not going to worry about spending a few more $$$ on it, I know I wouldn't

Something you may want to add to that list is the 1665 rail dial, as nice as red-ness is the 1665 rail is a very nice piece made in smaller numbers, but its subtlety in comparison to the reds must be a factor in keeping values lower. Being a 1680 white owner I've always been keen to jump on one if it came up as its more within my price range than reds, and sort of compliments the sub, particularly if I could get the years to line up.

Purely speculating but there may be fewer shonks clouding the market for 1665 whites as well. Its a nice watch to consider anyway :)

Hi guys, hit a bit of a roadblock I guess with my price range list:). Apologies if I haven't managed to capture prices on some exceptional pieces within the references , this list is more a guide for some of us especially beginners to get an understanding of what it's going to cost to buy a vintage piece on average since money is a big factor here. This list doesn't intend to capture those special pieces that collectors will jump at before they even get to market or that were of exceptionally rare/high standards so sorry if the prices came as a bit too low, but if we take the prices as on average should that be fair enough?
So will surely add in a disclaimer stating that to the list. I do understand that some collectors will pay above market rates to get the best pieces and thats perfectly reasonable but not everyones cup of tea:)

the links I was refering to by Mark Lerman

Where would you put Dadswatch’s DRSD? He was asking 50k and most thought that was not even close to being reasonable. Had some papers but no box..
Thanks

ida though $30k was fair ...

and service papers add to a loose watch the value of the service ...they arent 'paper's' in the sense that people mean when they say that....so loose watch plus $1k or so....i think that was one of the concepts Dw2 wasnt quite getting

Did he have any original paperwork at all though? Thought he had service papers, billing invoice, taxi receipt from picking it up at the post office, and the tissue the watchmaker that serviced it blew his nose in but that was about it.

IIRC it also had a service bezel / luminova insert.
