SS Rolex

Hey all,
New to the forum.
Been reading here a lot but just registered today cause as a fan of the crown (that you wear on your wrist and not your head) I wanted to participate in the fun.

Anyhow to the matter at hand.

How come only some SS sports models are held back by rolex and some models are available at every AD?
Most AD s I've visited have SS YM and TT YM just laying around. And most AD s have also sub date and no date (not hulk).

One of the AD s I've visited is so desperate to get rid of their SS YM that they told me when I just looked at a YM in a case "just so you know there is a discount on that" (didn't ask how much tho)

So my question is why do people hate (dislike/not appreciate) the YM ? And why does rolex send out so many subs that are not hulk ?

And one opinion question
Would you buy a SS sky dweller blue dial or a SS Daytona ceramic white ? Given you're offered both at MSRP but can only choose one
My heart goes to the SD but my brain said Daytona

Any info will be appreciated.

Welcome.

For what its worth, I would suggest you follow your heart as it will remind your head that you didnt eventually. Your heart will tell you what "feels" right when you try the watches on, and for me, thats where the passion is. If we all followed our heads, we would be buying watches purely for the resale value.

Just my opinion.

Welcome aboard.

I think SS YM is more dressy than most sport wearers would care for, hence the lower desirability than other sport models. I never liked it until I tried it on ( platinum dial) and almost immediately loved it. Still didn’t buy it though.

As for which to buy, go with your heart as other have said, but you can’t go wrong with Daytona.

Go with your gut! You will not regret it. However, if your gut tells you Sky Dweller, please kindly put me in touch with your AD and ask that he hold the Daytona :)

Welcome mate!

I'm pretty much a noob myself...

Given the choice of a Daytona or a blue dial Skydweller, I'd go for the latter. I know that probably irks many on this forum but to my mind, the Skydweller is aesthetically superior and oozes class!

I prefer my Blue Sky D over any Daytona; I have the Black which I like more than the white.

I would go Daytona, but you should go with whichever one you like better.

daytona. very good piece , looks good , worth every penny at RRP. Its hard to get one at rrp. If you do...you are VERY LUCKY...take the offer up. If you dont like it after a while trade it , and it wont depreciate surely so you cant go wrong.

I know the answer to all of your questions but I’m not going to give you anything because that will just make you lazy. Half the fun of the forum is finding the answers yourself. The search function is your best friend. As for the Daytona vs SkyD question you’ve chosen two hard to obtain models. Clearly you’re in no rush. That being said I prefer SkyD just because it’s a little bigger. Love the Daytona too though.

I really like the Yachtmaster with the blue dial and it could be my next watch.

The Daytona and the SkyDweller are completely different to eachother and make sure the fit of the SkyDweller is good for you because it is a bigger watch than the Daytona.

I guess it depends on where you are. In Canada, no discounts are to be had on any SS watch, including the YM. True that YM are much more readily available than the other SS models, but the discounts aren't there.

I tried 3 major Rolex dealers that I have a good relationship with, and none were willing to budge discount wise when I picked up my YM.

SS YM II is not popular for unknown me reason. I like this watch especially in gray dial and was considering purchasing one. As for SD or Daytona, I like Daytona due to it's sporty status and look. SD is more like a dressy watch and I'm not really in the dressy watches at all.

Welcome to TRF. Go with what you want to wear and enjoy.

If you have the opportunity to try on the SD and the Daytona you see that they wear quite differently.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum . I am not sure you will have to worry about the skydweller vs Daytona choice, very doubtful you would see either of those available anytime soon to be realistic.

Welcome

Are those 2 watches actually both available, offered to you to purchase? If not, then you will have a very long time to wait and my suggestion is to buy whichever is available to you first.

Hey you guys, thanks for letting me feel welcome.
About the watches: the dad of the wife of my cousin is an AD and he said I could pick one and the first one of either the daydona or sky dweller he gets he will let me buy (if i want of course) so that is why I'm in a dilemma. It goes without saying that it's a family priveledge and he probably has a long waiting list for both.
Just to clarify when I said my heart wants the sky dweller but my brain sais Daytona I meant that I think I may get bored of the sky dweller fast (like within a year or so) and then it will be hard to get a Daytona. While a Daytona I know I'll keep for years but it's not making my heart race when I look at it like the sky dweller.
Anyways if I decide to change I'll probably resell at that AD and not privately cause I think it would be the right thing to do seeing he's doing me a favour and reselling privately may cause him trouble if it ends on the grey market.
Yeah I know...
First world problems, but a problem nonetheless :)

If I get the sky dweller I thought about picking up a YM as well so I have one dress and one sport. And YM can be had for a great price ... but I fear if Rolex will change the movement next baselworld and add another 24 hours (tottaling about 72 hours) reserve to the movement I'll feel that I missed out...
Again - first world problems:)

Sounds like a good position to be in. I would try the skydweller on and make sure you like the size. Personally I found it feels way too big and a Daytona is much nicer on the wrist. Your mileage may vary...

Must be nice to have a family that owns an AD.
I still say, get whichever is available first. Because even with the special connection, it could be a very long time to get these 2 watches. Blue dial Sky-D could be more rare than the white dial Daytona.
