What would you do

I feel pretty lucky that the city I live in has a RSC and also my AD always has a Rolex professional watch maker on site who does a great job.

Today at lunch time I swinged by AD hoping to get one of my Rolex’s bracelet re-adjust. And I found out the watch maker is actually out of the store today. I was going to leave and wait till he comes back maybe next week. But the SA said he can do it for me. I was actually little hesitate to let him do it as I don’t know if they are professionally trained on handling these type of tasks and I’ve seen a lot of “AD damage my watch” threads... But I still let him do it anyway to avoid some awkward situation.

I didn’t see any scratches or damage on my watch when I got it back. Am I wrong to not trust an SA ? Are they well trained on these type of tasks?
What would you do if that’s you on the spot.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday

i beleive you should not be concerned with a simple bracelet adjustment by a SA at a a Rolex AD.

You should actually, do a search if you are interested. So many anecdotes where this went wrong.

Best is to DIY, easy enough, with the right tools and without rush

I would feel exactly as you do. You’re accustomed to a specific person servicing and/or handling your watch, and there are too many stories about a botched bracelet adjustment not be cautious.

Leave it to the watchmaker if the alternative gives you a bad feeling

My personal experience suggests that you're absolutely right. I do not trust a sales associate at a Rolex AD to perform a bracelet adjustment. Why? Because an SA bunged up the screws on my Sub's bracelet while making an adjustment. Fortunately someone else at the AD replaced the damaged screws after I complained. I trust only one person at my AD to touch my watch.

Yes I am actually searching for some good tools to try it. Any recommendations?

Thank you

I stopped letting sales reps handle my watches several years ago when I handed my Sub (at the time) to a sales rep at a fairly reputable local AD to pull the serial numbers off of it so he could order me another half link. He took my watch behind the counter and I watched in horror as he proceeded to manhandle it and then just flop it on the counter like it was a rag doll. That was the last non-watchmaker to ever touch one of my watches.

This I would leave any manners relating to the adjustment of your watch, etc. to someone you trust.

Yes I only trust the watchmaker in that AD, I really shouldn’t risk it today. Good things it turned out fine!

I'm ok with sales rep adjusting my bracelet because they do that all the time when they sell watches.

They also mess it up all the time.

I actually wish I had handled the situation more forcefully while it was happening. When he handed it back to me (by just setting it on the counter and sliding it back at me) I was gobsmacked, and I just stood there ignoring whatever he was saying about the half link while I slowly looked over my watch for damage. It was fine, thankfully. I left without saying anything to him unfortunately, which is not like me. I think I was just in shock at the disrespect. When I came back to pick up the half link I did complain to the manager and he apologized. The good news is that this particular AD location is not my normal location that I work with, and my normal location are a TON more respectful. I still won’t let them touch my watches and I’ve told them why.
