I don't think these concepts apply. The watch was purchased for a specific individual. If he has similar preferences as I have, he will love the 34mm Oyster Perpetual. If not, that's fine, it is a gift and because of that I would suspect he will be happy regardless of his preferences. He doesn't have to wear it. He may not even have an interest in wearing a watch. I have some brothers who simply don't have any interest in wearing wrist watches. The phone is their instrument.

There is no perfect watch since we are all different.

There is no all round piece for the same reason.
I didn't claim it was perfect, just that it was more likely to be preferred. We obviously like different things and there will always be people preferring the less commonly liked things to most commonly liked things. That being said the chances of someone liking a SS black ND Sub aesthetically are higher than the chances of someone liking a TT YM2 in terms of esthetics, although obviously some people will prefer it. Therefore if you don't know the preference for sure, one will have a higher chance of being liked than the other. OP39 is kinda like middle point where probably few people would tell you it's their favorite, but few will not like it either.

You make good points.

Looks great. Doesn’t look too small at all.

Hate to break it to you - your ‘mrs’ wears a watch which is too big for her. So ironic given that you give people trouble on here for wearing watches which are too small. Bet that DJ looks massive on her

34mm is great for any size wrist. Its only about what size watch the wearer wants. There really is no such thing as too big or too small, just a matter of personal preference. The beauty of the smaller diameter watches is more of the band or bracelet shows which is a nice look to me as opposed to just watch head.

That watch size can work perfectly fine depending on the watch and the look the wearer is going for. The same person can wear a 34m OP or a 40mm Sub.

Go with 36mm oyster perpetual in blue with numerals. Classic size, best looking case proportions, trendy blue.

34mm advice

Thanks to all who sent in their thoughts on this 34mm 15200 I purchased for my Son. I did end up returning it. Will look for a Datejust 36 or who knows at this time. I just also wanted to say that Federico at Interwatches has been outstanding through this entire purchase. The watch was exactly as described and he was extremely helpful with both the purchase and return. Thanks again to the folks at TRF and Interwatches.

What a fortunate young man to receive a Rolex from his pops!

34mm looks great on a slim young man like your son. 34mm looks great on any wrist under 7 1/2 inches - like a bespoke suit.

34mm is a perfect, timeless fit. Today's styles are much larger, and that makes the 34mm appear small. But the 34mm looks so perfect on the wrist.

Look forward to seeing a wrist shot for whatever you decide. Glad to see you found a trusted seller working with you. That makes all the difference. Hopefully he can source you a DJ.

I used to have exactly the same watch with black dial - lovely watch & same size wrist as you. Just fell out of love with the smaller 34mm size, still miss it every now and then though as I love the slimness of the old manual Precisions.

I love the green dial in that size. Just wish it didn’t have the orange accents.

Good move, imho. Maybe have him pick out something he really likes for himself, and then make the surprise something else?
Good luck

What does he wears currently? Think it will look good on him, also special as coming from you!
