I NEED HELP!
MY 17013 HAS DEVELOPED A NEW HABIT...IT WILL RUN FOR A FEW DAYS, AND THEN STOP.
iT HAS A FRESH BATTERY.
When it stops, I reset the time, shake it and it starts again and runs for another day or so.Runs fine when not wearing it, problem ONLY when being worn.
Any advice greatly appreciated

I had a problem where it would run but the minute hand would get slow. It turned out to be a loose canon pinion. That is not too difficult a fix but definitely something a watch maker needs to do.

If your watch stops completely, it could be a more serious problem. Like the step motor is bad.

The other thing to look at is the battery and if it was installed properly. There's a brown colored piece that lies between the negative side of the battery and the cover that keeps the battery in place. If that is not installed properly, it may not work properly.

Good luck.

A fascinating thread.

I am thinking of adding one to my collection...
Prices seem to be going up.
The 17000 appeals to me.

Does anyone have opinion on this one, please?

I love my oysterquartz. I purchased it new from the AD in 2006 also a 17000a black dial though

Looks a little over polished. Just saw some crispy 17000’s land at Perusia Watches (@perusiawatches on instagram) send them a message.

As has been said it looks over polished.

I'd also pass on that one at that price.

Look for much sharper edges.

Perusia Posted 3 17000's on their instagram story yesterday. One MKI dial, two MKII dials, all unpolished almost NOS condition. I inquired about the MKI he said 5700euro, if you're in the market It doesn't get better than that. Im all set w/ my collection, but for some reason still find myself looking around

Hi all! Recently bought a 1979 17000 which appears to have a non tritium dial and a non open 6&9 date and mint hands. So I assume it may have had an overhaul. However it's losing 2 sec a day and have noticed it loses a lot more time and randomly stops ticking when I have my air conditioner running and my room cools. Seems to struggle when the watch is at 20-22c.

Anyone ever had such issues?

Guess it's off for a service. Also battery was replaced hoping it would resolve the issue.

Thanks!

not an expert but:

- 2s a day seems like normal drift
- when the battery runs out it will do a half-tick back and then forward, so it looks stuck, then it stops altogether. See how it performs after the battery swap.
- 1979 should have open 6&9.

Oman Oysterquartz 17000 question

Hi
anyone have an opinion on this Oman special? It's on chrono24.

If it's a non-legit custom dial, then Rolex won't service it...

Grateful for any insights.

I personally think thats a redial and the “Oman” is just a story to help sell it.

I compared the ROLEX print to my authentic White Romans 17000 and it looks a little different. Mainly there is a little more spacing between the letters.

I could be wrong but I think the onus should be on him to prove authenticity.

I think all special order watches have the case serial engraved on the inside of the caseback. That could help prove his story. But Id still be hesitant and would want an expert review in person.

Ive been seeing more "matte" dials around the web. Does anyone know if these configurations were ever in the catalogue ? I always thought they were all sunburst but maybe Im wrong.

First one is "matte" black, OP swears its genuine and has loads of other dials/parts on his page (which look genuine).

the next one is "matte" gray (no lume, OP said it was a special release for the Japanese market "17000 from 1981? When Japan by law banned radioactive materials Rolex sold some watches with T SWISS T dials without lume dots to Japan"). To my eyes the hands look incorrect for an OQ. The minute hand should be closer to the outer track, same for the hour hand and the markers.

Our favorite "Oman Special" is back with a new dial

Its now rocking a black onyx with print for a regular datejust

Overall its an ok piece if you can get past the aftermarket dial, but the description is definitely telling some porky pies:

pulled from Chrono24

Stunning piece
Never polished (see the angles) so extremely rare in those condition

Rolex 17014 Jubilee OysterQuartz
Onyx plain Rolex dial
Oman Sultanate Khanjar Arms Logo on the back
Complète 17000 band
Perfect working condition 5035 electro mechanical movement
No défauts / NOS
Spécial RO édition with gold 18k touches
Less than 10 pieces made on order.

I've had two of these in Day-Date and DateJust guise, and honestly they look as contemporary as one can get. Such a timeless piece, and ridiculously accurate.

I should add - with only one change of battery in ten years and not a single service in their lifetime!

Sharing this OQ link to good information and pics under the different tabs on the page.
I’ve been a fan of the OQ DD and other variants for years.

I've had my blue dial 17013 for 38 years (page 2 post). I bought my 19108 around 10 years ago with a not-perfect black stick dial. I found a very nice silver dial that's on it now. I had a third OQ (17013 champagne) that I bought for my dad when he couldn't keep a perpetual running on his wrist. When he died, it came back to me and sold it to a very good friend who loves it.

I love the fact that Rolex dealers will still do a battery and case back gasket replacement every several years for no charge.

The case, although not its own design, is spectacularly beautiful. Rolex should reissue their release with a 3235 movement.

OQ was my very first and very uninformed Rolex purchase. Overpolished, blinged AM bezel and WRONG OP AM MOP dial! I didn’t know any better but in hindsight I got it for a song. I rarely if ever wear it knowing it’s so terribly Frankin’d. I have acquired a genuine original dial and looking for a proper bezel to have installed and hoping Rolliworks can give it the proper refinish and restore some edges. I know most would think I’m a bit nuts to invest that $$ and effort into it but it’s value to me is beyond the dollars. Like all my others there is a life correlation to each piece.

LAWW did a great job refinishing one of my 17014's. Also seen great work from "@watchesspa" on instagram.

Depending on how much you're putting in, maybe cheaper to buy an OEM bracelet and new mid-case from RSC ?

Thank you. I will check them out now. I wasn’t aware that OEM parts, to that extent, were still available. I assumed NOS only as I have found some at fairly shocking prices from independents leading me to believe they were no longer available. Is the only way to inquire for RSC parts via an AD?
