A pretty good trade......

Yesterday I made a pretty good trade. I gave a sailboat and I received a very cool watch in return.

The boat: I acquired another Ranger 22 identical to mine but in rough shape a few weeks ago. Had to do an 1,100 mile round trip to pick it up from Rhode Island and get it back home. The Canada Customs experience wth a declared value of $zero is another whole thread. Total cost of the trip was about $1,000 U.S., including $300 for the wrecker to lift it off its cradle and onto my trailer

The watch: an original gold plated Heuer Carrera from about 1970, belonging to a member of my yacht club. Valjoux 72 movement, three register, column wheel chronograph needing some TLC.

I'm going to do what I can to get the new boat owner onto the water. I have tons of spare sails, hardware and gear up the ying yang (I've been racing mine for 26 years and have all kinds of spare stuff), and it'll be fun to have a twin to race against.

In the meantime, I'm just starting to realize how cool this vintage Heuer chrono is, from before Tag showed up. Gold plated tonneau case, 3 registers, column wheel, everything works. Poking around on the net indicates that they're in the $2K - $2.5K range cleaned up, which is about what I'd value the boat at. I think this Heuer is going to be a keeper.

Before and after pix to follow...........

I don't want to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol IS a solution!
