Buying from Members

Hey All,

Curious to know what people's experiences are with buying and selling with users on the forum. I've been talking to someone about a rolex valued at ~$100,000.00.

What is everyones experiences with at things in this kind of high level price point. I know that if you buy from a dealer online a lot of times they give you a window to get it checked out and can return with any issues but for private sales not sure how people protect themselves. At this value would most people fly to that location it's being sold and have it checked by a dealer before sale? Is there any companies who do private sale / cash buy insurance?

Direct bank wire transfers were usually what I went with whenever I bought on my previous account. You have all of the sellers info which helps a lot.

If it's that rainbow you have a WTB ad for and it's available for $100K its either a scam or you are the luckiest man in the world!

You can't seem to get them anywhere for less than $250k

I would too. David once shipped a watch to me before I made the payment. He's the best.

Yea David's awesome. I've wired that amount to users before, I was just suggesting that could be an option.

As long as you're positive on the seller it wouldn't matter, to me, if it was $500 or $500k. Triple check them, phone/email, confirm the wire instructions etc etc. I've bought and sold 5 pieces in the past 9 months and always confirmed the person/bank info.

But, as you said, at this price why not go yourself to check it out? Then you can just call the bank for the wire transfer if it checks out.

Thanks for everyones input, yeah I know there are a few people on here that you can trust even if you've never worked with them before, such as Jacek and DavidSW.

But just wanted to gather some intel from peoples past experiences and see if I was missing anything I had not thought of. I think my plan would be on something like this to fly to the location and have an AD verify the serial against the reference.

In general I'd like to believe that everyone on here has the buy or sellers best interest in mind.

No, they don't, and WTB threads like yours are common targets for scammers

DavidSW and Tony (JustRolexes) are completely trustworthy and have the highest integrity. I am sure there are more sellers on TRF (if not all) that are equally as professional, I just happen to know these two personally. If it were anyone else, I agree, spend a few hundred on a plane flight.

What is best a custom Rolex or a Rolex that is stuck in custom?

Keep in mind, any seller can go rogue on you. It's best that you fly out there and make the transaction in person. There are real stories from this forum where honest seller disappearing with the money.

Which 6263 are you buying? :)

If it is for the rainbow Daytona, RUN AWAY from that deal. As other members have pointed out, WTB threads tend to attract scammers.
