5513 gilt vs. 5512

Hi guys

I am thinking of trading in either the 5513 gilt or the 5512 to get a 6263 (of course, I need to throw in also a little bit of cash :-)

Now my questions:
- which one would you keep and why?
- which one is rarer?
- which one has more value potential in the future?

Really depends on the condition. A perfect gilt will always be a grail watch and it will be priced accordingly.

I don't own a Gilt, but would love to. If I had one, I wouldn't part with it. They are getting harder and harder to find in decent condition. Keep it.

Just to echo the other responses I'd keep the Gilt if condition of both is about equal. Gilt dials are just so special.

Gilt-dialed Subs are indeed special, of course, but they ain't 6263s. Different level of collectibility and desirability, IMHO.

However, let's see photos! Condition is the key. I'd much rather have a clean 5512-13 than a trashed 6263, money/value considerations aside.

I’d let go of whichever tosses the highest trade value as it’s probably (for me) a steep price for a 6263. Keeping one hyper pricey watch in rotation is probably enough. At some point I would worry about having anything reasonable to wear that I’m not afraid to devalue.

Hard to judge the gloss from that. Feeling is that it is not perfectly mirrorlike and super glossy? If it is I would pick that before a matte sub every day of the week.

I would always buy a perfect gilt before a Daytona. It is much more difficult to find a good gilt compared to a standard Daytona. If buying a Daytona I would go after the early ones with mk0/1 prototype pushers which are rare and cool. Standard screw downs don’t do much for me.

Thank you - I decided to let go the 5512.
and guess what, I did not pill the trigger on the daytona. I did pull the trigger on a 6538 tropical sub.
Will need to wait one or two months but I am looking forward to it.

firstly i would say the choice of which watch to keep has to do with which of the watches between the 5513 and 5512 is in a perfect condition.

I would say the 5512 in most cases, because of the 4 line dial, but 5513 Gilt wins this one according to me.. Very nice watch you have. Good luck with the 6263 :)
Edit: Saw your decision later haha, good choice! :D
