5196 AD discount in USA

Hello, I am considering to purchase a 5196 (not sure if J or R). I would really appreciate any idea of the kind of discount that I can aim for that piece in an AD in USA.
I use to be very gentle and polite but I do not mind to insist and be persistent ;-) ...

Thank you!

Depend which AD you go to.......

Anything less than 15% off.... Walk off to another AD....

I would push for 20% or 15% and add a free Calatrava cross deployant clasp as you mention on the other thread.....

15% to 20% seems reasonable.

Do you guys manage to achieve 15-20% discount on pieces? (Not talking VAT)

Agree with the above, however Than (Takuya) has a 5196R for sales under $18k. Been listed for a while too. Might try that if an R is what you're interested in and can't get a discount you're happy with from an AD.

Of course the upside of buying a 5196 from an AD is that it'll help you get more in-demand pieces.

Quite the trade off

Thank you very much for the feedback, as you understand it is great to have a kind of baseline.
I am going to be in San Diego and LA but not much time, I can see that there are some ADs in those areas.
I would appreciate any specific AD recommendation, if anybody consider appropriate to give me any specific personal contact in the area by private message I would be very grateful, I would contact before my travel and I prioritize it on this business, and for sure I will have maximum respect.

Availability of Calatravas is limited at the moment. I would not expect any discount from an AD if you are not a strong client. I waited two years for a 5296g. Crazy as this watch market is, now simple time watches are hot. Complicated pieces are slow movers.

Did you try calling around for your 5296G? I had to call 30+ dealers but found one within a day!

I am sure they slowed production on their way to discontinuing the 5296. The 5196 should be much easier to obtain.

No I am very loyal to the AD I have used since 2011. Great relationship.

First of all thank you for the feedback that I have received in this thread. I want to update it with my recent experience in South California.
I visited or called all Ads in SoCal and I have not been able to find a YG or WG 5196, I have seen 3 RG and one PT. Only one of the ADs had a YG in a branch in another state.
Regarding discounts I only get to that point with two of them, one offered a maximum discount on the watch of 9% and to the other one (the one that have the reference in another branch) I offered to purchase it at 20% discount and they refused.
My next objective will be in a travel that I have to Spain in July, as I can see the prices there for non residents after getting the tax refund are considerably lower than in USA.

I just returned from Hong Kong. So many Patek Dealers there, and most with only a few slow moving pieces for sale. At one store they had about five women's watches in stock, and only three men's. I asked if they were open to selling one of the ladie's watches for a small discount (it was an older model Calatrava) and they quickly said they never discount anything on their watches, and that they were in fact forbidden to do so by the manufacturer. If this is true (which I doubt) then how do so many unworn pieces show up for sale there at a discount?

Agree, 15% to 20% discount should be easy. If not, or should i say better still, get a discount in Europe PLUS get~17% VAT back :) Used that strategy to get ~30% discount all day long year ago.

Shop smart, shop S-Mart.

My experience has been different. Days of discounts are over on anything entry level. Anything over a 10% discount is a gift.

Gearys in Beverly hills had a few. Doubt they'd discount much if anything.

Gearys is the AD with more stock that I recently visited, they had 5196 in RG and PT, we did not talk about the price as they did not know when they would receive a YG.

I just want to add that I offered to pay cash and it was no difference...
