AP15407OR vs PP 5980

Hi fellow TRFers, I recently picked up the ap 15407rg, really love the watch, understandably this is one of the sought after APs in the line up, I like the SS openworked as well, however I find the dial pops better against rose gold. Here's a little history of my ownership of the 5980/1A blue, I had the watch since 2012, unloaded it for something which I thought was needed at the time, regretted terribly after, not to even mention the recent value increase, i've always thought about buying it back. I'm a sucker when it comes to AP openworked but I have the same love for the discontinued model PP5980/1A. Would any of you trade the 15407OR for the 5980 blue if you were in my shoes?
Much appreciated!

5980A but depending on how much cash you’ll fork out. The open work is beautiful - I had the steel one before but the couldn’t get past the lack of complication.

I then realized I’m not a simple watch guy, but rather complications.

That AP is a beautiful watch, but not one I’d ever aspire to own. It’s an art piece and very different from the 5980 which is a purpose built watch that has what...roughly doubled in value since you got rid of it?

You might have to add over 10k cash on top of the openwork..

Once again proving that boredom is the enemy of the collector.

I appreciate the craftsmanship of the AP but it is too much for me on a regular basis so I'd get the 5980.

I would stay with the AP.

When I wear it, everyone notices and wants to know about it. Total wow factor watch and you need to have one of those in your collection.

If you can manage it, keep both the 15407OR and add the 5980. Both are watches that are highy collectible and likely to retain value.

Keep the AP. I had the 15305st and sometimes I regret letting it go.

No way. The 15407 is a true work of art. Gold for SS with cash on top just seems like an awful trade.

15407, while the nautilus are nice I could never really see myself adding a piece at such a markup unless it was ending my collection.

Plus as some have mentioned above, the 15407 just has a much more wow factor in my opinion.

Do you actually want the 5980 again or is it more a function of the nautilus mania, or like an ex girlfriend who you forgot all the bad stuff. I prefer the style of the Royal oak over the nautilus

Thanks guys! I'm surprised most of you suggested to keep the 15407rg given its in the PP forum. Anyway I think I might as well keep the openworked and try to appreciate it more. As for the 5980 blue, I do like it a lot, but good point on owning the watch in the past and shouldn't pay too much premium buying it back. At the end of the day, the market is pretty inflated for all nautilus models at the moment.

I say keep the AP, it happened recently to me with my 5990, no matter how many times I wore it, it just didn't sing to me. So I got rid of it. However, after seeing it surge in price I wanted it back, but I feel it's mostly because of the hype. So I decided to keep what I have instead.

IMHO can't even begin to compare AP openworked to Nautilus. AP wins on every level by a huge margin. 2 Years ago 5980 was in no-mans land. It has benefited from a temporary resurgence due to an ever increasing demand for Nautilus. But I doubt it would last.
