Swapping SS Rolex for SS Nautilus

Over a year ago I was bitten by the Nautilus bug, I successfully managed to keep it at bay for a year however its still making me itch.

Have the opportunity for a 5711 or 5712 which are the ones still calling to me

Would like to get down to 3 Rolex and a Nautilus. Over the last year I have come to the conclusion 4 watches are perfect for me. however I would like to keep the funds in my collection (add if have to)

What would you guys swap out? I have some ideas but would welcome any thoughts. I like the idea of 4 watches with variety.

The DSSD was my fave but finding I am wearing it less nowadays - I must be getting weaker :)

The ND Sub is my "beater"

Explorer for dress up occasions with the Daytona (Daytona on lazy Sundays also)

Hulk - For some reason dont wear as often as I should but maybe due to the other watches

*Forget about the Omega in the collection*

If this were my collection I would most likely get rid of the Explorer and the ND Sub. I think the DSSD, LV and Daytona make a nice trio.

IŽd keep the SubC and maybe the Daytona. Then flip the rest for the Nautilus and take your time to think about which should be your fourth.

Myself, I think that one SS Rolex is perfectly enough - either a Sub or GMT.

With your options, i would keep the Hulk, Daytona & the ND sub. Get rid of the rest and get the PP. You can use the naut for your "dress up occasions". Good luck!

This was my most recent and exact thoughts to be honest.

Would certainly give me variety (black, green, white and blue dial)

This is my honest opinion but also playing devils advocate a little bit. The DSSD, sub the hulk are very similar watches - for a different look but still keeping with the same line how about a 2-tone bluesey? It can be a fresh angle on the model that you obviously are a big fan of. Then sell the omega and Explorer.
Then you'd have the nautilus, daytona and bluesey

Cheers for the suggestion though - much appreciated!!

Personally I agree with this move also. I think the Hulk is cool but it resembles the ND Sub being a diver. Need a Chronograph and the white dial Daytona is very readable so keep that. My reason for selling the DSSD was that it's just too bulky a watch to wear often. Good on the weekends but not anywhere close to comfort as the 5711. My only thing about the 5711 was the bracelet and clasp weren't as solid as I would've liked. I enjoyed it for a while but eventually sold it after I got an AP Royal Oak. Those are two similar watches but for me it was the perfect size at 41mm with a great bracelet.

I would keep the ND, daytona, and hulk.

Blue black white and green dials once you get the nautilus in :)

This is definitely what I would do. Either that or get a GMT and loose the ND.

DSSD I think is a dead cert despite being an old fave its currently out of favour. If I had any regrets its prob the easiest to replace as was bought discounted and now less desirable since the Cameron version is available

Explorer I use for more casual occasions and im guessing would never wear again with a Nautilus in the collection. Again this is bottom of the sports range so guess no big deal to replace if I missed it.

Just the Daytona and Sub for me. The black ND is a great every day wear, Daytona for weekend and then 5711 will work with both casual and formal attire so a night out or another option for weekends.
I saw your post on TZ, I sold all but one of my Rolex's and replaced with PP's and I don't regret it one bit. Go for it!

Ha - I have been interchanging watch scenarios in my watch box and indeed the Daytona and Sub were alone at one point and the thought that "this is all the Rolex you really need" did come into my head!!!!!!

The LV is seldom worn but im finding it hard to think of letting it go for some bizarre reason!!!

Maybe if I get down to 3 Rolex and a Nautilus I can revisit your idea and see if things change with regards to the Hulk

The LV was one I sold and I'm pleased I did. I realised very soon after buying it that I should have gone classic and kept it black (I now own a 5513, very classic!), it's also the only watch I've ever profited from. Get on the list for the nautilus, you'll still have plenty of time to decide which will be on the chopping block.

I have the 5711 and I'd never swap it for the 12, however I am considering picking up a 12 as well at some point.

This tickles my OCD itch. It's like watch Soduku or something. Anyway, to maximize variety but still have a harmonious 4 watch collection (1 on wrist, 3 in the box), here's my very humble opinion:

- Sell everything except Daytona and ND sub. Buy a GMT-IIC and a 5711. (The Patek will replace the Explorer forever as your dressier sports watch; the SD, Hulk, and ND sub get a bit redundant and you're only wearing the Sub for the most part).

- Daily driver: The ND Sub since it's your current go-to watch.
- Watch 1 in box: GMT-IIC (imho, best Rolex made today and a useful complication)
- Watch 1 in box: Daytona (lazy Sunday a perfect description, classic and a keeper)
- Watch 3 in box: Nautilus 5711 (beyond classic - also beyond beautiful)

In the box for variety (left to right: GMT / Daytona / 5711):
- Black, white, and blue dials
- Ceramic, polished, and brushed bezels
- GMT, chrono, and date complications
- Largish, medium, and svelte diameters (and heights)
- Sporty, transitional, and sporty/dressy looks

For harmony, you've got:
- All steel
- Brushed & polished bracelets
- Flat sapphire crystals
- All wearable, no "bank vault" pieces

This actually gives you two daily drivers (the ND sub and the GMT-IIC) which you can swap in and out of the box while maintaining the glorious harmony of it!

Be sure to buy a 3-watch case. Can't tell you how many bad decisions I've made based on the number of "gaps" in my watch case.

Good luck, man! These are super fun problems to have.

In your shoes, I'd have 114060, 116520, PP 5712, AP 15202

Wow that is a super detailed reply to my puzzle and some great insight there

I think I'm on the right track:
1) OUT: DSSD and Explorer
2) IN: 5711
3) Decide eventually if I'm happy to keep two subs or change one eventually for something different e.g. GMT - will take my time with that decision!

Agree with you on the watch box thing. I bought a 12 piece box and was inclined to fill her up. I only got to 8 watches and decided that was too many for me (culled several Omegas and a Rolex Explorer II)

For some reasons the AP's dont do much for me but I must admit not explored the brand properly.

If DSSD is out, I'd have Hulk, Daytona and GMTc.
