Sorry to hear that. You might be able to pay now and collect it in June?

I saw it again today as I was passing the store - they have it on show all alone in a massive streetside window - it looked rather lost but beautiful in there.

I was seriously debating getting one myself but I think I have decided against it but it truly is totally gorgeous.

3 month limit on tax free, that’s the rub I assume.

It's not short for me. It's a 13 hour flight from Singapore!

Is there no more 5170p in Singapore? Have you asked HK side as well?

For the next buyer at 150k lol. Should add - short strap was too short, not enough tail for my liking.
I’m on second tightest standard strap. It’s the curse of small wristers and leather imo

For ref have my 519 on ee both sides

My tape measure is cumbersome, Home Depot style. I didn’t want to commit metal on metal crime. My eyes suck to read the hash marks.
I think you are overthinking. Call AD ask for pt tang and strap for the P. My guess is 20 at lugs and taper to 18 at tang or 18/16. Let them figure it out.

I believe it’s 21mm lug and strap tapers to 16mm. I removed the deployant as well and wear a different strap with tang

Ok. Thanks. I’ll just order it directly from Henri Stern.

Ok, thanks Mike. Hard to find 21mm straps. Do you recommend any other strap makers besides Camille Fournet?

hodinkee has some interesting options In 21mm. I’ve also ordered a few straps from veblenist.com (grey and light brown) that I wear on my 5170p

There was one in the window of Boodles in Liverpool as of Wednesday this week, perhaps give them a call.

I spent a good 20 mins with the 5170p at an AD last month and realized that I’m only buying it for the potential of becoming a collectors piece down the road. But I’m afraid that diamond markers won’t make it one as they are not timeless nor classic and will always be considered bling bling no matter how subtle they are.

Long story short, I passed. Even though price was really good at $77K bnib.

i tend to agree. TS certainly knew that when he created the 5170P. he wanted to make a beautiful piece but not a 'timeless classic'. funny that....it would have taken little, maybe just regular baguette markers instead of the diamonds.
but beautiful it is...

Anything can be collectible. Beanie Babies, shoe laces, hair from famous people... Have you considered the hot limited edition sneaker resale market?

It's all speculation, and can change to the downside quickly (just as Mr. Kraft).

Smart Move!!! It is a nice looking watch but IMO there is no way it is going to be collectible. They are all over the place and in this instance cant even be sold at 19K off of list. If Patek releases a 5170A this year the P will really tank is my guess. I am all for buying because you love the look but so few modern day pieces are going to be collectible. Just my 2cents

Agree it's all speculation. Who knows the future? Funny you mentioned sneakers because another friend just brag to me about his collection of jordans appreciating by more than twice the price, like the 5711A

Maybe I should have changed the word and not use "collectible" in the title as it's misleading. What I really mean is that I wish the long term value will not be falling too much. I will accept a certain amount of depreciation is necessary if in the unlikely event I have to sell it but I tend to be more a hoarder than a flipper. This is the only watch in current patek collection that I want to add. 5170A release will not bother me because I am someone that doesn't like stainless steel pateks.

Ben... You have been in this watch game for a long time and I know you hold onto your pieces. BNIB at 77K you wont get hurt too much if you wanted to sell but ADs offering little to no discount I find laughable. I know of greys offering to buy used examples in mid 60s

Yup. It may be pure "hot smoke" as AD looks to maximize profit due to the recent news of discontinuation and things will normalize again after Baselworld. One thing that we all cannot deny is that this is an incredibly beautiful watch. I actually struggle to think of something I find nicer in this price range.

Datograph up/down and Doublesplit come to mind. The latter is just jaw dropping-ly beautiful.

But also jaw dropping-ly large!
Having been accepted for a TS and then finally getting to try one on the wrist I had no option but to pull out - but it is stunning.

Wow! Boodles must of got the last dump of stock before it was announced to be discontinued. My AD had two across the stock books for a good few months then recently sold both and cannot source any more.

Boodles will soon move them to speculators I am sure. Its a beautiful watch

It is a beautiful watch and they will move those soon. However I don't think it would be collectible like the 5070P due to production numbers.
