No denying that, and I never made it an issue. The LN and BLNR are both the same 116710, just with a few aesthetic differences (or maybe I should write esthetic, but since I was taught Queen's English growing up, aesthetic will have to suffice).

In the same way, the modern Air King and the Milgauss GV are the same watch ...with some minor differences in the dial, second hand, coloring, sapphire crystal and bezel brushing.

Which is why I said it depends on the original poster's taste - does he/she prefer a green or clear crystal? PCLs or brushed links? Thoughts on a lightning shaped second hand? Numbers on the dial or not? And such differences - which are aesthetic.

Exactly the same decision someone who is making a decision between a LN and BLNR GMT would have to make, since it is the same watch with little aesthetic differences. Same with the modern Air King and Milgauss GV - and for contrast purposes, quite different from, say, a choice between a GMT and an Explorer II.
Nailed it. The decision point is aesthetics. What 'sings' to the OP.

You conveniently left out the beautiful original Air King font and a Rolex first - coronet in yellow and the Rolex text in green.

This watch is an absolute modern beauty and Rolex should be commended for putting this reference out.

...and as we all know, its always good to have something Rolex have done / introduced first on a watch...

And on the BLNR, its the first EVER watch to be created with a duo colour ceramic bezel.

Both the AK and the BLNR are Rolex 'firsts'.

Don't get me wrong, while its still a Rolex, I have always thought the Airking to be an entry level Rolex and it often appeared to me to be among the cheapest contemporary Rolex's you can buy used. I also agree with above member that the new versions dial looks too busy. That said I like the Oyster Perpetual 36, which some reviewers have scoffed at on YouTube, like Dog trainer extraordinaire, 'Marc Goldberg' for example.

The Milgauss has made a come back as a cool watch to some extent and some vintage pieces are commanding high prices. Who knows where the newer model will go, especially with that patented green crystal that wasn't easy to perfect.

If I had to make a choice with this decision, I'd choose a Milgauss. Its a great size. Its unique, uncommon and its Nerdy. It reminds me of something an acentric scientist would wear for a reason, not for show. A man of real conviction. I think that's SUPER cool. I'd take a black dial, but white seems to be more popular, especially with vintage pieces. As long as you are aware going in and can live with the fact that Milgauss is a very heavy watch due to the faraday cage and its size.

Milgauss GV all the way, black dial of course.

Its actually been created to echo the dials in the Bloodhound Land Speed record attempt car they are sponsoring! So, its kinda of a special edition without making it one!

I'm sure once the record has been broken / or not, the dial will be changed.

This watch, unless you have no idea why it was created, its a stunning piece with a history to match. And wrapped up in Milguass case, and over 1k cheaper! Its a Rolex bargain!!!!

The problem is that Rolex clearly just printed some white numerals on the Explorer dial, leaving the applied 3/6/9 intact.

I don't see silver applied markers on the Bloodhound SSC dials.

Still strikes me as a half-baked attempt.

...and its STILL cheaper that the Explorer. Its not all about cost, its about the concept and idea... I personally think this is brave, but exciting model from them, more than anything else.

I hope its a failure TBH, so in 10 years time I will have a smug smile on my face when its value has rocketed.

I was interested in the Air King until I saw it and realized that the old non-luminous 3 6 9 from the explorer were being used. If Rolex changed the Explorer to have the luminous 3 6 9 in response to people not being happy with non-luminous, why did they use non-luminous on the Air King ... Oh well.

OP would be a better choice imho. But from those two, I would go with the Milguass. AK too busy and a little cartoonish imho.

I like both with slight lean towards milgauss! I still to this day double check the “au” is correct

AK. Brushed bracelet and $2K less. And after 2 months I have gotten used to the dial and cannot imagine it without it.

I would go Z Blue if it were my money. But whichever fits your lifestyle is the one to get.

I had a Milgauss when they first came out. Never liked it. Uncomfortable, didn't like not having a flip lock and my eyes always went right to the bolt. I would not buy either and get something else.

I think the Air-King is the best deal in the professional series right now.

Whatever you do just make sure you try them both on in person before deciding. I never thought I would like the AK but was on holiday in Italy and popped into an A.D. to take a look at what's on offer. Tried the AK on and it looked amazing. Was on my wrist as I left the shop later that afternoon. AK definitely gets my vote

It's at the bottom of the line up. Dead bottom.

I would probably go with a used (discontinued) black dial Milgauss.

While new, it is hard to justify the price of the Milgauss over the Air King, the used market makes the price of the Milgauss one of the better buys. Even as a GV owner, I really love the discontinued black dial. Love the all white markers.
