Just one more?

Greeting fellow enablers. Been a member for about a year and have truly enjoyed the camaraderie and the wealth of knowledge that has helped guide me. Recently was gifted a DJ II I have been after for a few years and was pleasantly surprised by my wife with that very model for our 24th anniversary. It’s stunning and everything I thought it would be for my first Rolex.

I have some very capable ponies in the stable in the form of a Ball NEDU, Ball 60 Seconds II, and a lovely Ball Marvelight. The new Datejust fits right in the rotation nicely but I find myself cautious about its durability, probably because it’s just so gorgeous! My Ball NEDU gets the most wrist time as my daily driver. No worries about it’s ability to stand up to my day to day activities.

My question is this, any issues with maybe adding a SubC Date to round out the stable? Durable? Check. Iconic? Check. Fits my wrist and looks great? Check.

Not really looking to have a world class collection, just trying to get to a 4-5 watch collection that works for me. I know the answers to all my questions, just need some encouragement to push me over the edge by some well intentioned enablers!! My 25th anniversary is in sight in under a year and well, maybe just one more in the stable will get me where I want to be!!

Thanks for your opinions! Pic below of the current rotation minus some beaters.

Enjoy!

Everyone needs a Sub.

That is your encouragement and if you don’t you will be shunned for the rest of your days

Thats the general feeling I get from reading this forum, everybody needs a Sub! I will advise my bride that I am in danger of being shunned from TRF for not having one. Nobody wants to be "that guy"!! Thanks for the encouragement!

A GMT has one more hand than the Sub.

It sounds like the SubC is something that ticks all of your boxes so why not go for it? In my opinion it’s a classic Rolex and must have for enthusiasts.

I do like blue! Have been peeking at the Tudor Pelagos as well. Seems to be a well made piece at the price point with excellent pedigree. If I pulled the trigger on a Tudor, would the opinion still be, everybody needs a Sub? Would be right back in the same boat!!

A sub...it’s a sub...need I say more? I picked the LN over the LV as I wanted to fly under the radar a little. But then, flying under the radar is something the sub isn’t very good at doing. It’s too iconic.

You've got a great line up.

Would a sub fit in? But of course.

Thanks Larry. The current lineup makes me smile and gives me the latitude to have a go to watch for just about any occasion. Pretty sure a Sub would fit in any lineup! Might even be considered by some as the centerpiece of any respectable collection. Not looking for respect, just a good, broad collection that checks all the boxes for me. I feel I'm nearly there!

You need some color. The sub LV would be my choice
Best of luck and congratulations on your DJ ii

Thanks Doc. A splash of color certainly couldn't hurt!! That green does some very special things in the right light!

I actually prefer to fly under the radar a bit, something one of the colored dial subs don't do very well I suspect. Seems as though a standard SubC Date might fit the bill and would be able to take just about anything I throw at it, as I tend to stay pretty active outdoors. A black dialed Tudor may fit the bill as well but I'd still be a nice collection, sans Sub.

Yup. I’ve had three Tudors so far. They are great pieces, but they don’t scratch the itch to own a Rolex. I needed my Rolex to look great with suits, so I had to go with polished center links. Made all the difference starting the first day I tried one on 16 years ago.

As you have Datejust now, I will replace the Blue dial Ball(exact copy of DJ) and add that funds to SubC Date. Other two Ball watches are great looking though!

Thanks Maxy. No doubt the Ball Marvelight was inspired by the Datejust. Never really considered flipping on to fund the Sub. Frankly, I've never sold a watch. I buy what I like and I wear em! Just trying to figure out if the Sub may be the missing link in my meager collection. Just might be!!
