The new 42 ‘vampire’ ceramic bezel test-drive

I was interested in the new 42 ceramic as I’m looking for a easy daily AP. Had some time to kill and stopped by the boutique today.

While the overall weight makes it an easy piece to wear, the ceramic bezel did not have the vertical lines that the 44’s have. It was a smooth finish.

The one thing that I could not get past to put a deposit down was the strap.

All other new AP rubber straps are all matte finished and pliable. This strap was stiffer than usual. (The best strap is on the titanium 44)

But the biggest non starter was the shiny strap. It’s like how a rubber strap gets after years of use. I had the 44 titanium out as well and the salesperson said she noticed it too.

Here are some pics...

And for the strap...

as much as i would prefer a ceramic bezel, i prefer the steel bezel on this one. better contrast esp with a black dial.

I personally like my older vampire too. If the ceramic bezel had the vertical lines in the bezel perhaps it would offer more contrasting detail. The red in the strap doesn’t really work either imo.

I was considering this too. I liked the strap. Reminded me of my old Grand Prix. I’ve wanted an all black watch, and this comes close. But, the Havana actually called to me more.

No interest in the watch but I am looking forward to try out the straps.

Don't know why they didn't threat bezel with vertical brushing... judging by pics 42 ceramic Diver bezel looks way better than this one...

Looks like the swirly texture of the strap matches that of the bezel. Plain strap and vertical bezel would be better. Still look forward to seeing it for real.

If the big non starter was the strap, just put on any of the several options you would have as a replacement. I would do black/red hornback with deployant. That would rock! Do it and post pics!

I am ok with the strap, but I don't think I can live with a mat-finished bezel anymore. Those vertical lines are what makes ceramic bezels on AP offshore so sexy.

I think it looks pretty sweet. Probably too large for my taste but it’s a beautiful watch.

Looks cool, but the hornback on it would be better.
