Rolex Boxes

Do Rolex boxes differ hugely?
Model, age etc. Do the more expensive watches come in a fancier 'casket'?
It would be nice to see the variations

That box is much older than the watch, but you probably know that

Well spotted Dave,
The newer box isn't as photogenic.

Great picture!

I like the look of the old vintage boxes, but prefer the newer ones.

Currently they have three main boxes: The Oyster S for most SS watches, the Oyster M for TT watches and some sports models at the discretion of the AD (for example some BLNRs and Daytonas are sold with the medium box while most are sold with the small box. The Oyster L is reserved for solid gold and platinum pieces. Both the M and the L have the flap on the outer box which is more convenient than turning the outer box upside down to get the green box out.

Some exclusive high-end watches come with special boxes. There is a beautiful green piano finish wooden box for high-end Pearlmasters. It’s similar to the standard piano finish Patek box.

I’m fond of some of the older Rolex boxes especially the ones provided with old Day-Dates. However I think the current boxes are a big improvement over the previous gen boxes that were discontinued in 2015 I believe. The hidden compartment for the papers and links is sleeker.

Thanks, I know what you mean, the newer ones seem more robust. But you don't get the lovely old, new Rolex aroma.

Thanks for the info. I sort of knew most of the stuff regarding the S M & L boxes but had absolutely no idea about the Pearlmaster box's - never seen a picture or anything! Must do some more research..

Current Rolex boxes are the hugliest in the market.

-Steel watches have the small box except Deepsea Seedweller ( large ) and Daytona ( medium )
-Two Tone have the medium ( Yachmaster too )
-Full gold have large
-Skydweller its own box
-pearlmaster its own with small compartments for jewellry
-la Daytona platinum its own and i am not sure for Day-Date platinum or 40

I didn’t know about the piano wooden box either! I learned about it from the thread I linked to. There’s so much we can learn from this great community!

Daytona depends largely on the AD. It’s about 50/50 small or medium for SS. I think ADs abroad tend to use the medium box more than here in the states.

I agree they’re pretty crummy. Good thing they just sit in my safe.

Rolex Boxes

Sad thing is the black piano box that my much cheaper Tudor BB came in is so much nicer than the boxes my Rolexes came in. Ultimately though, the boxes all just get piled up and stored somewhere never to be used again. Still, I would have thought Rolex boxes would have been much nicer.
