Gold Fever.....Need some opinions.
I have been interested in adding a gold watch to my rotation. I would be spending around $20k (which would be the most ive spent on a watch to date). Currently I own a DSSD, SubC-LV, and a PAM 111. I already have a hard time deciding between the DSSD and Sub and wonder if adding a gold daytona, Sub, or GMT would make it that much tougher to decide what to wear.
Today I thought about the option of trading/selling the Sub-LV to help pay for the gold piece. The DSSD is a must have and the PAM is essentially my daily wearer for work. Replacing the LV with a gold refference would give me 3 distinct looks to choose from. Opionion: Keep the LV because it is pretty bad a$$ and Just add the gold as a 4th in rotation. Or, let it go and pad the ol bank account a bit. Next on list would be the AP Diver. Thanks for your thoughts

Considering your collection, I'd probably go for a dressy piece, a DD or DDII. Or, if you wanna stick to sports models, then IMHO a gold Daytona or a gold GMT IIC would be equally great addition to your collection. With the Daytona you get the added benefit of possible future dial change -- if you may get tired of the dial after a while. Adding a gold Sub-C would be redunant in my book, but trading your LV-C for a gold Sub-C may work out.

I can only advise with a pic! Here is one of my favorite Rolex timepieces! Good luck!

If you're looking at the newer models, the GMTIIc is the only gold watch near your $20k budget... it's not a bad watch to 'settle' for.

Mike, I wouldn't call it settling!

yeah leaning towards the GMT. There are a couple for sale on TRF now. DavidSW just sold a white dial 116528 this week for less than $20k. I contacted him but was too late.
My biggest dilema is wheather to keep the 116610LV or trade/sell it.

Tough choice, personally I would keep the LV, however, if you work with David, Tony, or Oscar on a trade into a full gold piece I am sure you will get a competetive price differential rather than selling... Not sure how selling works so this is just my opinion! Good luck!

mostly, agree

A gold Daytona on strap would be a nice choice, but a pre-owned DD on strap wouldn't put much of a dent in your $20k, so you'd be well on your way to owning the AP. |

I would definitely keep the LV. IMO, it is the perfect modern reference and you may regret it if you sell it or trade it away (I know I would).

Thanks for input fellas. Charles, I know what you mean about the LV. Id hate to see it go, but it would allow to get more wear out of my DSSD. Since i wear my PAM to work most days, my other two only get worn on weekends.

been there and done that. would recommend the YG GMT first, the RG Daytona second
here is a gold caveat............once you start wearing your YG GMT you will not want to wear anything else. the look, the feel the weight of YG or any gold has almost stopped me from wearing all else. I had a DSSD I wore as a daily wearer for two years, sold it. My SS GMT gave to my one son and my SS sub to the other. I'm just saying when you get an all gold watch IMHO it changes how you feel about the other watches. this is my findings you may be different. |

I would definitely go for the RG Daytona - the ultimate gold Rolex in my opinion. But good luck with a tough decision!!

If you're looking for gold - I would choose yellow over white. Yellow is coming back into style and although I love the white gold versions over the daytona, presidential, submariners, etc -- I think a yellow or rose gold watch is very sexy

I'd say a new YG DD if you want to stick in the Rolex arena but I'd personally say pick up a nice yellow or rose gold PP Calatrava if you want dressy and elegant, but a YG DD would be gorgeous or a TT Daytona with a white face. Either way it's an amazing dilemna to be in ;D

It's easy for me. GMTIIc green dial. Keep the LV. If you sell a watch boot the DSSD. I've considered dumping my DSSD and it has a TON on sentimental meaning to me. If u like WG SubC blue dial is the way to go. I'm not a fan of the Daytona as it wears small and has no date.

You've got the sports watches covered and if you don't want a gold DJ or DD, how about something like a PAM 231?

If you are going to have ONE gold Rolex... Then there is no question a Day-Date is the one to go for...

If you're worried about the color of YG, the WG SubC is the perfect alternative!
I may be a little biased towards the professional sports models. |

That's an amazing car, Kilyung! I love the R8...
If I was in your position, I'd look at the YG GMT II-C, with a green dial. Might have to go preowned, though, I think they're right at about 30K. Best of luck! |

I like the YG GMT-IIC. The YG DD-II is $2,000 to $4,000 more used.

Keep the LV and pad the wallet! Unless you really have a hankering for gold. I'm not big on it, so it's much easier for me to decide.

That YG DD is a beauty though if searching for a dress watch I'd put in on a strap. Never thought of a Rolex as a dress watch but those Roman numerals speak to me. I favor an understated look for dress and have only been comfortable with gold PP tank and Large Tank Americaine until now. Interested to see what Rolex you choose. Enjoy!
