Two completely different watches - What would you do?
Hi Everyone,
Two completely different watches I know, but I would like your considered opinions on this dilemma? I rather fancy the new Tudor Black Bay. I think it’s a stunning watch and I liked it as soon as I saw it. But I also like the Rolex Explorer in 36mm. I like the Everest connection etc… And just like the Submariner, I like the James Bond connection with this watch and its rugged do anything ability. If I went for the Explorer it would have to be a pre-owned model. (To keep the cost similar to a new Black Bay.) So, what would you all do? A new Tudor Black Bay or a pre-owned Rolex Explorer? I realise that ultimately only I can make this decision, but I would still value your comments and opinions. Till next time… The Laird

TBB for me. You have a strong interest in this style of watch, why not something completely different. A Datejust or a JLC / Breguet?

Black Bay, you'll own a watch that very few other people will ever own, and at an amazing price point for what it is :)

If I was forced to choose only one, I would go for the Explorer. I like the simple, classic design and the historical association it comes with is the proverbial icing on the cake. Of course, this is my own very subjective opinion. Good luck with your decision. |

Two sporty watches, although very, very different, both in look and size. Since I already own the Explorer I, my thought is to add the Tudor. Now, it is possible to find a new 114270 if you look around. On the other hand, it will be possible to add a second hand Explorer later. I would argue that the Black Bay is sportier, and the Explorer more versatile. You should try them on before deciding. The difference in size is ... noticable, to say the least. Good luck, and let us know what you decide for! Best, A |

Buy a Rolex if you don't own any Rolex.

If this is going to be your only watch, buy the Explorer. However, these are two completely different looking watches. I'd make sure I was going to be happy with one or the other styles before I bought, but both watches will last you a lifetime.

I have never fancied the Explorer I and would rather get a Datejust instead of it.
My vote goes to the Black Bay a stunning looking watch and I will get one myself once they become readily available. However, if you don't own a Rolex, shoot for a pre-loved Explorer II |

I think it really depends on what other watches you currently have. I have an Explorer I 36mm, but only added it after my small "collection" got loaded up with 40-44mm diver style watches with rotating bezels.

I too vote for the Explorer. I have a Day-Date and a Explorer 14270 and I find myself always gravitating to wear the Exp. I. Good luck!

I fear the Explorer will pull you in before the Black Bay becomes available.

If you like Black Bay and can afford pre loved Explorer 1, what about a pre loved 14060?
