Icon14 My "new to me" 6605 Datejust

Below are some close up pictures I just grabbed of my "new to me" Datejust 6605. Took it to the local AD earlier today and confirmed that it is in fact an 18K model. It also has a roulette type date wheel. Oddly enough, no date stamp anywhere to be found. My poor eyes can barely tell what the serial on it is, but it seems to be a six digit starting with 30.

Will soon get a black croc strap for it for more formal occasions and I may get a white one too so my wife can share this one with me. It is a lot lighter than I expected (in comparison to my gold cased, leather band Daytona).

Now to enjoy!

Thanks! Really enjoying this one

Since I often wear jeans, the blue croc strap suits it just perfectly. I also think it plays nice with the ocean in the background and the blue sky

In the best Elvis' voice you can muster: "aw, thank you very much"

Will soon receive an original clasp and looking forward to adding a black croc strap for more formal occasions.

AD called

and told me that my OEM buckle arrived! I got lucky and found a black sharkskin strap so I promptly put it on. At first I wanted an all black croc strap, but this one is slowly warming up to me. Hope you like it as much as I do!

Beautiful watch. I would question the dial as well, but everything else looks perfect. If anyone has a similar dial with "T - swiss made - T" markings, please post.

This dial was repainted by Ken Specht back in October 2011. It originally had a gold finish dial on it.

Although its had a dial refinish, it was a good one. That dial looks very nice and crisp unlike some other refinished dials I've seen over the years.

Well, this watch takes the cake regarding the shortest amount of period that I have owned a watch.... It used to belong to my brother and he is back on his feet, so the first thing he wanted to buy back was this watch. If anything, it helped me understand that I definitely want a dressy watch like this, but I would not go for a 6605 simply because of the serviceability of it. The hunt is on, but it may be a bit before I replace it as another "toy" has recently arrived too

if you don't mind me asking what did you pay? im looking at a similar one that needs a service, but ultimatley im going to have to offer for it and want to be fair for both partys. i've seen them anywhere between 2-5k for the head only. obviously i'd like to get it closer to 2 =D

So.... I had the opportunity to buy this watch back from my brother (yet again)! Even though I am not in the best economic position to have done so, he needed my help and I really missed this watch (something I cannot say about many others I've owned).

Put on a white strap I bought my wife for her 1603 and it immediately changed the look again (favorably so, but for a woman...). I can see my wife "borrowing" this watch often. Oh well! And yes.... the original gold plated Rolex buckle will be put on this white strap.....

Very nice watch. Classic design even if somewhat difficult to get serviced properly because of lack of some parts. A durable watch with the 1560/70 movements may be a good alternative or a later quick set plastic 16013 still has a classic vibe with the right dial.

Luckily for me, I have excellent Rolex contacts, so getting it serviced or parts for it should be not too difficult, emphasis on "should".... No doubt there are more reliable/modern/better alternatives, but in this particular case, there is a story behind this watch between my brother and I, so it holds a special place for me.

When/if I get a job back in the corporate world (been unemployed for the last 7 months after never having been unemployed not even for a single day in over 24 years since I graduated college), this will prove to be a "practical" watch to wear under a shirt cuff with a suit and tie. If not, going for a blue croc pattern strap to match the blue jeans I often wear.
