Yea verily! Watches are for buying, not selling. People selling their watches......hmmpf. What's the world coming to?

I realize this thread is a bit old, but can someone confirm - M/Z with 3186 doesn't exist with lug holes case, right? That's pretty important to me, more so than the movement, probably.

Edit: also, hi! This is apparently my first post on these forums :)

16710 was the first luxury watch I purchased and just got "lucky" it had 3186. I purchased right before the ceramics came out and at the time of my purchase I don't think anyone even new 3186 was in the cases. Once the news broke I admit I immediately put this watch away and never wear it. It seemed to be a good decision as the watch has basically tripled in what I picked it up for.

With all that being said... Do I think the premium is worth it, absolutely not. The watch does the exact same thing as the old 3185. But if someone is willing to pay me $15k for it I would definitely consider unloading as I don't wear. I will admit I don't know watch appreciation in the least, but my intuition is that this watch won't hit much higher than this 15k threshold. Only time will tell though.

So if you just want to wear the watch, id get a 3185. If for investing just think do you think it's going to appreciate much more than 15k? I think it's always more likely price to go down then to go up. So I wouldn't invest at this point, but it's not my money.

While the caliber is a great advancement, the current pricing is just overblown and shows where the market moved to after other "special" Rolex lines got overpriced. I think $1k is justified, beyond that it's silly money...But i'm happy theres a market for it and good sped to the sellers. cheers some more...

Here is a parts list showing some of the 3186 parts that are new or not interchangeable with the 3185 movement.

Not worth it. Crazy prices being asked right now. There's one going here for the equivalent of US$20,000 at the moment.

3186 movement

if alpino is right about the credit card certs then there is 2 or 3 16750 z series on the internet that had their guts swapped , not sure in reality that this would happen , a 3186 movement is the thick end of 2k then you need someone to fit it , then you need to be sure that someone will pay the premium , and then if that person does a paper chase, theirs always a possibility that the previous owner will know the watch had a 3185 movement when new , seems a lot of risks to gain 3k - 4k more ,and as someone else pointed out , rolex dont release any info on watches , so nothing can be proved , but it does make good reading .

3186 movement

Sorry ment 167510
Ps , there is another doubt, Rolex are very twitchy about anything untoward, imagine myself trying to order a 3186 base plate and spring , they would know straight away what I was up to , and start asking questions , it would then force me into buying a full movement 2k , that would hurt.A couple of z6s on the internet are advertised having 3186 movements, with paper certificates , if these people did swap the movements then their taking a huge risk , putting them on the internet , there is a good chance the last owner would recognise the watch especially when the cert is there for everyone to see, yes I know they cover some of the later numbers but I'm sure someone would say that's my old watch , it had a 3185 movement in it not a 3186 and blow the whistle , who knows when 3186 movements went into 167510s I'm sure Rolex play games, they like to give their watches a element of mistque, and of course get people talking ,well they certainly have!

There are two on eBay both without papers and they are asking 8500-9500.
