Patina lightning?
I think it has lightened up a lot. Am I imagining this or is this possible? My dad gave me my Sub ref: 16800 made in 1983/1984 on July 6th. He had it in his room on a winder.

Hard to tell. Lighting conditions would need to be exactly the same for a true comparison, and taken by same camera, no saturation in digital file, etc ... The dial/hands patina, based just those photos, looks pretty similar to my eyes.
However, that looks for sure like a different bezel insert. The scratches are different. They're different, right? I'd be very surprised if the patina on the insert pearl changed that dramatically in a matter of weeks. |

You are right. It's definitely hard to tell over my iPhone pictures. I just noticed it today appear lighter than when I was given it. Thanks guys for your input. Sent from my iPhone 6s using Tapatalk |

Patina lightning?
Yes tritium can lighten up when constantly exposed to light.
My 1680 considerably lightened after I purchased it (I wear it daily). Prior to that, it lived in a safe deposit box. I posted a before and after here. Another dramatic example I remember is "jedly" showed a before and after of a mil sub (or comex?) he wore on a week long sailing trip. It lightened considerably over just the week. Of course patina lightens in sunlight, much like most other things fade.
Here's my 1680: 1. when I bought it, (May 2012) 2. a month later later, (June 2012) and then 3. a year later... (May 2013)

Here's another example, my 1675, although it's relatively minor fading, I think.
1. March 2015 2. March 2016

I opened this post fully expecting to see a watch with bolts of lightning shooting out of it...
