6609 Thunderbird from 1972??
can this be? I thought the 6605/6609 refs stopped production around 1959.
attached pics of tbird in question. any and all feedback much appreciated, as always! |

The III.72 looks like it was stamped at a different time than the other stamps on the case back. As to why I dont know. Is the serial number between the lugs also from 1972? The hands are from the 70's. Could be service replacement hands. Late 50's would be daphne hands. Dial looks later too. This could very well be a hodge podge of service and original parts.

The case back was most likely replaced. Maybe because it was worn, or maybe because it had engravings.

I think you guys nailed it. Service replacement dial, hands and caseback...
Still a nice looking watch, though, at least IMHO... |
