Ceramic or pre? What is your preference?
I prefer pre ceramic, I have owned ceramic sub and GMT IIC. Yes the clasp is better, the bracelet is better, the bezel stands out more and looks clean. However when I put on my pre ceramic pieces it just feels right, I can't really put my finger on why it possible comes down to the case and the dial.

I think it depends on the model. For me, I prefer the pre-ceramic, though it will be interesting to see what others think.

ceramic for me. Although I do really like the 16710. I feel it would be hard to get the colors right on a ceramic bezel. The 116719 is an example.

Ceramic for the bracelet, clasp, bezel, and case. Pre ceramic isn't bad but if I had to choose then ceramic.

Ceramic, I like all the upgrades, including the larger case as it wears like a 41/2mm.

Chaps
Experience has taught me never to trust photographs of a small item such as a watch when imaged on a relatively large computer screen. You can only truly answer this question after seeing the ceramic in the flesh. Regards Mick |

Pre-ceramic for me. Less shine and it will fade over time. I think a watch should wear over the years. Much more character that way.

Pre for me. I don't like the bigger cases on the newer watches either.

Ceramic
Until two days ago I owned a 116600 and a 16600 for the last year and a half. I would alternate each watch, many time in the same day. Both are great but ultimately one was going to go. I chose the 116600 for the legibility and the ability adjust the clasp on the fly. |

If I were asked to pick just one, it would definitely depend on the model. Pre for some, ceramic for others. Either one is fantastic in some (submariner, gmt) :) pros and cons for each.

Same as some of the answers, ceramic for some and pre for others, I guess a combination of both is the optimal for me.... love my 16710n but also the BLNR... both are great watches in their own right..

Pre-ceramic in all cases, outside of the new Daytona, which is probably the only current Rolex model I'd consider purchasing. I wouldn't even trade for the heavier bracelets and clasps of the new models.

I thought poll would go the ceramic way. Most posts seem to be of ceramic pieces here, obviously not a bad thing the ceramic models are improvements but they just don't feel right for me.

Ceramic Here! The way the color bezel contrasts the dial and band is great!

Love both C and Pre C, since there are advantages to both, but my 16700 is my first and favorite watch!

I like ceramic better and what comes with it. Solid links so more weight and the glidelock clasp just makes it so sweet!

Ceramic, but my appreciation for the pre-ceramics is increasing. Though i admittedly prefer the improved bracelet and more solid feel of the ceramics and that might stand in the way of acquiring a pre-c if I ever got serious about one. This is one reason I think the SD4K will be my next... all the improvements with ceramic but the smaller lugs like the Pre's.

love the sub ceramics but my SD 16600 is perfect as it is and is one of my favourites.
love the look of the maxi with the shiny bezel but my SD is the most comfortable watch to me personally

While I will always love pre-c, I'm a huge C fan for the ability to add such vibrant colours to the line!

Most loved the technically superior Porsche 996 after buying one, too. Over time, though, many began longing for the 993 once again. I think we'll eventually see the same with these new Rolex watches. Like the 996, the ceramic watches are a pretty big jump in design and features, but they loose a lot of the vibe.

In terms of sheer asthetics and function, I think my old 16600 was as close to perfection as one can get in a sports Rolex.
And whilst the bracelet and clasp are better on the ceramic models, in 28 years of almost daily wear of hollow centre link bracelts and pressed clasps I never once had a problem or failure of the parts, or a problem with adjustability. The ceramic models do have a more modern appearance and I guess like most things (996 Porsche's excepted), you come to appreciate the changes more and more over time. |
