True, but not paying either the sales tax or use tax in your state? In America that's called Tax Evasion... !!!

Tomayto, Tomahto. The only difference I see is that the empty box plan makes the AD an accomplice.

Not judging, not objecting, and many do this - but let's be honest about what it is.

My dealer said I could walk out with the boxes, papers, etc. The watch itself had to be shipped out of state, period.

I bought gifts and sent them to loved ones ... I don’t know about
any evasion personally... Maybe some one else...???

No retail store is going to ship an empty box.

I often ask AD to waive the tax and they usually do so. They won't ship out of state. I've always been treated fairly with pricing...

Well, you are certainly lucky to have such an AD nearby.

No issue with me, however I know of friends who have requested it and were not successful

Never done it with buying a watch in my own state. Many years ago I bought one in the neighboring state, was living right on the border at that time. And we used a courier service to “ship” the watch across the river to my state. Had it within an hour of leaving the AD. One of my better ideas I think. AD had never heard of such a thing but I have a feeling they probably used the idea again.

Just an anecdote. I was visiting LA last year and the Beverly Hills Boutique told me if I bought something there they would ship it home to me sans tax.

Man I would be sweating bullets until that watch showed up safe and sound

I don't understand trying to game the system and going through all that trouble to save a few bucks? We know what we're buying. Just pay up & avoid all the nonsense. IMHO
