Date Just Lapis Lazuli Dials

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew what year Rolex introduced Lapis Lazuli dials to the Date Just model?

I have just purchased a 1974 18c yellow gold Date Just with a lapis dial. I believe the dial is a genuine example, but what I would like to know is whether it is original to the watch itself.

I have attached a couple of images for reference.

One area of contention is the T Swiss T marking. Now, I know this would indicate lume hands/markers, but my watch has no markers and plain hands. Almost every other example I've seen has the exact same markings, which is very confusing.

Anyway, any help/information would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Gerry

Apologies - I'm unable to upload photos from my phone... Hopefully someone can shed some light on what year the dials were introduced anyway!

Thanks again.

Totally correct. They all had T SWISS T

Non lume hands and no lume on the dial. Just the way the print was set.

Thanks for confirming! Do you know what year lapis dials started appearing in Date Just models at all?

i had one from 78 like yours.

Rolex knows...but they won't tell you if your watch came that way or not. :-)

Mostly when they've been swapped people put regular hands with lume.

I would bet your watch came with that dial.

Great, thanks for the info! Someone had mentioned to me that they didn't start featuring until the early 80s, which I found a little odd as most of the examples I have seen during my research were 70s examples.

I trust the people I bought from too - long standing family business and have never let me down before!
