Red Sub Dial
Hello, sorry for ANOTHER red sub question but I'm looking for an expert advice on this 1680 dial. The watch come with punched document, serial 9.7xxx (1973/74) but the jeweler sell stamp is from 1977.
Any thought? Thank you |

9.7 serial is not from 1973-1974. The dial is not original to the case then from what I have read

It wasn’t uncommon for Rolex watches to have been sold much later than the serial number would make you believe. Some where sitting in store for several years, so the fact the papers were stamped much later doesn’t mean much. The “closed 6” dial seems to line up with the production year.
Seems like a great example to me!

I think the first 6 is open, better magnification needed. The s in submariner is flat also. In my opinion it's a MK V dial. Submit pictures of it with the back case open and I'm sure some better qualified members will give you an opinion. Good luck

Even recently produced watches before random serials started would show a serial which indicated a production year and the warranty paperwork and receipt would show that it had been sold a year or two after the production date according to the serial number lists available online.
In fact, I wonder if that has something to do with random serial numbers... To not be able to tell that a watch was produced a couple of years ago when you purchase it. Last edited by thomaswentworth; 13 March 2018 at 02:22 PM.. Reason: adding a thought |
