Types of damage dial on Sub
Hey guys , just got my sub 168000 and i couldnt be happier. While spider dial is very common for this production (1987), i have not seen anything like the stains on my dial. Anyone has relevant experience in such damage dial ?

Thats my first impression but the dealer showed me a watch with real water stains and its slightly different . We cant be too sure though .. i read that during 87 production the dial technique was poor hence spider occured. I hope this stains r off the same reason

Looks a Like a stardust dial. I have a spider dial the also has a similar stardust. I love the spidies on the trannies. Remember 15 years ago nobody liked the brown dials either. I think in time they will gain a following.

Seen this a few times - I'd say moisture ingress at some low level is involved - with the lacquer surface. Maybe bad application, leading to 'lift-off' of lacquer so the faint bubbles appear...

Stardust, Spider it doesn't matter how many fancy names you invent it's still a damaged dial.

Damaged dial, but many 31 year old subs are. I would relax and enjoy it.

And on the plus side, the dial and hands look original. I would rather have an original "damaged" dial, that the wrong dial or a poor re-dial. Just my opinion.

Those dials would drive me crazy with an imperfection like that .... If I'm paying a large amount of money for a luxury item, I want that luxury item to be perfect.

However what really affects me would be the moist getting into the watch due to poor maintanence from previous owner. Anyone have thoughts on this ? I understand its possible to touch up on lume but is it possible to touch on dial if its due to moist damage. |

To be sure, “Stardust” is simply a term applied by a dealer somewhere in an attempt to make a damaged dial sound alluring. It means nothing and tells you nothing about what kind of damage the dial suffered.
