Ate some bad chicken last night

My wife picked up a couple stuffed chicken breasts for dinner last night, we cooked them thoroughly but as soon as I took one bite I knew it just didn't taste right. Unfortunately, I swallowed that one bite. We threw the rest of it in the trash. 12 hours later and I feel okay, hope I don't get food poisoning from this. I've had that before and it is not fun at all...

What about it didn't taste right?

If it was food poisoning, you most likely would have felt the effects by now.

That's not good.... Food poisoning can be terrible. I've had it many, many times over the years living here in Thailand.
I think I've only ever had it once from street food though, that I can remember. Usually from a restaurant or hotel and sometimes a very nice, well known hotel that you would not expect to be poisoning you!

Would you prefer yet another Basel thread?

I just thought there might be others who would want to commiserate with me. Sorry, I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on...

It just tasted kind of gamey...

I think I'm fine, it ususally hits me within the first 5-6 hours after eating so I think I'm in the clear. Plus, I only had one bite.

I've had it a couple times and both times it was from a restaurant and both times it was a cooked fish dish. Oddly enough, that hasn't put me off fish.

It is not fun at all. You basically want to die for the six to eight or so hours until your stop throwing up every 15 minutes.

Money well spent on the Thermapen MK4.

They have a sale once in a while if you get on their mailing list which is very informative, and they have a more basic model that's less money. There are cheaper alternatives but not as reliable and accurate.

Looks like you missed the bug!

We have a meat thermometer and it was fully cooked. It just didn't taste right.

My son took a bite too and swallowed it. My wife took a bite but spit it out after I said something, she also said it didn't taste right.

Could have been the stuffing or the chicken. I generally avoid semi-prepared raw foods. There are too many opportunities to introduce bacteria that will not be killed until you cook it.

I have had food poisoning, the first hour you're afraid you're going to die.

The second hour you're afraid you're NOT going to die.

Food poisoning is the worst.

Only had it twice so far in my lifetime and hope to never have it again.

When I see stuffed anything at the supermarket the first thing that comes to mind is that food is old and the supermarket is trying to squeeze out what’s left in expiring inventory. I cook everything from scratch.

Get well and hope it doesn’t get worse.

It was "fresh," from the deli counter.

Yep, that sounds about right.

I think I'm in the clear though, thankfully we didn't eat much at all or I'm certain I wouldn't be posting here right now.

Look at the bright side. Food poisoning can be a great kick start to some weight loss!

I'm usually the one they ask to taste if something is good or not, I've had some nasty meat but never gotten sick from one bite. Even had game on a few occasions that was on the edge which made others sick but I was fine.

One bite should be OK, unless it was really rank.

Just ignore the silliness....., threads like yours are a good change from all the post-Basel musings.

I know exactly how you feel. Ate bad chicken once for dinner, and definitely paid the price the next day. I would expect that you would feel the ill effects by now though, so you may be alright. Ultimately, if you do get ill, just be sure to stay hydrated, and eventually it will run its course out of your system.

Was it a sour sort of taste with a little twang at the finish?

That’s what spoiled meat tastes like no matter how well you cook it.

You should be fine.

If it was cooked through and tasted bad, it's not usually food poisoning. It's just a bad or old cut of protein or stuffing stabilizers. Stuffed and modified ready to cook meals like that are not the best cuts. That's how grocery stores move near expired product.

I've eaten quality sun cooked chicken and manifold pork burgers with no problems because it was fresh kill.
