Two types of vintage collectors

1.) “colors”
2.) grayscale patina

I have some of both but have way more colors than non. What type are you (and show one)

Here’s a bright orange one with blue insert

I’m confused by these categories. Please can you explain more?

Sorry. Totally confused. Are you talking how things like lume plots change color over time? (Though, where does the grey scale fit in?) And collectors prefer one but not the other, but might have both?

I am guessing that he meant:

1.) “colors” - lume plots
2.) grayscale patina - insert

Some of both meant patina on lume plots as well as faded insert

Sorry for the confusion, I meant:

1.) colors: I just meant anything colorful ie not gray scale. So: lume plots, hands, insert, pip. The pic I posted has a blue insert and bright orange dots and hands

2.) grayscale: white, off white, gray, etc

Here’s my grayscale entry

They're all beautiful, of course, but it's tough to beat clean custard-colored patina, especially on a glossy dial. I have vintage Rolexes much older than this 168000 that don't have nearly as much pop.

Some many variations of patina through the years. Part of what makes it fun.

Is this insert what you mean by varied grayscale?

Still confused. How is it one or the other? They're two completely different things.

It's like asking whether you prefer a car body or wheels.

I’ll say there are 3 components to a 1680 that vary in color:
1.) insert
2.) dial (lume plots and actual dial)
3.) hands

I’m asking do people like grayscale only for those or do they like color

I’m simply observing: some people seem to like grayscale tones (think: some people only like black, gray and white clothing). And some people like color (think: colorful clothing)

I’m a v dark patina lume plot, greying or browning dial guy… but I’ve come to realise over the years that I’m not a fan of very heavily faded inserts (on subs or sea dwellers or esp when say a 1675 goes light pink but the dark blue stays darkish blue …dark fuschias though lovely ) - We are all different !

I like them both:

a blue insert contrast with the black and red dial

and a heavily faded insert contrast with a blue dial
