Opposite Blacklist question

Do you think if you are the buyer of 'new' Patek based on calendar year and you take it for adjustment or service, that Patek would look down on you for buying gray and blacklist your for that 'infraction?

Absolutely not.

I’ve even walked into the Salon with a recently purchased grey market watch and received a free strap lol.

The original owner of the watch may get blacklisted however..

No way. Quite the opposite. Buying grey and wearing it indicates that you're serious about the brand and not a flipper. It makes it easier for the SA to make a case for why you deserve an allocation.

Totally agree
I think even more so now when the market is cooling off

Im looking at going grey on a Calatrava, maybe if I buy it I too will walk into the salon and hopefully get a new leather strap.

Did you get a leather strap because they are like £350

Frankly, who knows what will cause Patek/ADs enough concern to blacklist. Maybe an AD would know. Buying used only increases the demand and price for used watches which encourages people to sell into the used market. Hard to see how Patek would like that.

Exactly.

Who knows why you would get blacklisted?

I think unless the AD found you selling straight away on Facebook Marketplace (which happens in Bangkok) I don't think they care.

If you bought a watch and 5 years later someone else takes it for a service, does that really matter?

Are you expected to keep a watch "forever?"

It’s a Patek. Of course you’re supposed to keep it forever. Next generation, yada, yada, lol.

Exactly. Why do Patek publish auction results in the magazine?

I know, I love this. Until you inherit a 32 or 33mm dress watch when all you wear is a sports watch or something in the 38mm+ range. But sure, I’ll keep for sentimental value.

Obviously, it might be considered a bit "wrong" to walk out of an AD and flip something for a profit....but what about 6 months later? 1 year?

Maybe you don't like it and want something new....maybe you need the money?

Once you've paid for a product it is "yours" and you are free to do what you want with it.

If anyone thinks that Patek have people actively checking for flippers they are dreaming.

From my current dealings with various staff at AD's - it is probably the height of their intellectual powers to check your Linkedin profile to see if it says "Watch Dealer"!!!

Well I’m not so sure about that. My SA has had no watches to sell for months and months and all he does as far as I can discern is “expectation management”. So checking out new wannabe Patek owners will at least help pass the time of day!

Sad, if that is the current state of the Patek new market. I don't think most complications in PM are hard to get from ADs with some reasonable waiting time involved, given so many of these are selling under retail on the secondary markets.

The "Patek is unobtainable from ADs and Salon" crowd seems to only want the models that sell above MSRP. It is not the current state of Patek new market except in very specific geographic locations.
