Speedmaster movements
I'm considering getting a Speedmaster my only question is concerning the different movements of the different models. I understand the Speedmaster Pro. (Moon Watch) is the one to get but is a little more than I'm willing to spend at this time. (Just got a Daytona not too long ago.) I know the speedmaster date. (the one i'm considering) is run on a base 7750 movement and was wondering if this movement in the Omega specs is up to par with the rest of the omega movements.

That movement sure is! the Automatic, Co-Axial Chronograph movement is in other watches in the line (from what I have herd, like the Speedmaster Legend etc etc) and have herd nothing but good stuff about it. Omega has done and is doing a fantastic job on them so i'm pretty sure you would be satisfied with the durability and performance of this movement both short and long term. The movement has some exclusive to Omega technology and they own ETA (well Swatch group does who owns Omega and many other well known, high end Swiss brands). Some others who might actually own that one can tell you a bit more but hope this was atleast of some help. Best of luck to you on your search for more info and the watch!

You can't go wrong with Speedmaster..
The ETA 7750 used to be the Valjoux 7750 (ETA merged with Valjoux), probably used in more chronographs than any other movement ever made... Valjoux movements (before ETA) were used in all the early Rolex Daytonas before the introduction of the Zenith movements in '91..

So the 1164 has no pros/cons compared to the 3000 series movements?

I have been interested in the slightly older Speedmaster Automatic watches, but confused about the various movements, specifically
-1151 for the Dates -1155 for the Triple Dates, - and the 1140, 1143, 3220 etc for the no-dates. Is there much difference in the merits of these movements?

I know the 1154 is the predecessor to the 1164 which is the chronometer grade 7750 modified by omega. I assume the 1151 is the older 7750 variant and the 1155 is the 7750 modified for the day date function. I'm not sure about the 1140/1143 but I know the 3220 is an ETA 2892 with an added module to make it into a chronograph. The 7750's are all cam switched obviously, but the 3220 is a column wheel chronograph. As far as the pros and cons for those go I have no idea.

Thanks, Joel. Thats good to know.
I think the Valjoux 8850 is the movement used by many higher end brands on their chronographs.
