Based off some of the responses you'd think OP is visiting the 10th circle of hell... maybe I should command more street cred having lived in Delhi.
Here's a few places to eat, PM me if you have specific dietary needs: * https://www.roohrestaurants.com/new-delhi (branches in Chicago, San Francisco, internationally recognized) * https://indianaccent.com/newdelhi/index.php (consistently ranked among world's best restaurants) * http://www.haldiram.com/ (a famous chain restaurant with a massive variety of Indian food from different regions) * https://www.zomato.com/ncr/the-big-c...rket-new-delhi (nice cafe with classic movie posters adorning the walls) * https://www.zomato.com/ncr/pco-vasant-vihar-new-delhi (one of the best bars I've been to, and I've been to many across the world) * https://www.zomato.com/ncr/bukhara-i...puri-new-delhi Places to shop: * https://www.thechanakya.com/ (has a rolex AD in case you want to look at empty display cases lol) * https://www.dlfemporio.com/ * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khan_Market * https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janpath Places to see (other than Taj Mahal): * Qutab Minar/Hauz Khas Village - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qutb_Minar, https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attracti..._of_Delhi.html * Humayun's tomb - https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/232/ * India Gate - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_Gate * Chandni Chowk (a snippet of Old Delhi, skip if you are faint-hearted/have a weak stomach) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandni_Chowk * Red fort - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Fort * https://akshardham.com/ Where to stay: * https://theimperialindia.com/ * https://www.tajhotels.com/en-in/taj/...ace-new-delhi/ Other notes: * It is crowded for sure, you'll have to get used to less personal space and more noise * Wear a mask, you are visiting during crop burning season so air quality will not be good * Obviously only drink bottled water - this is valid across most of the developing world * DO NOT hand out any money to panhandlers/con artists (including children) * South Delhi and Central Delhi are the more affluent parts of Delhi, based on your concerns you might want to limit your excursions to these parts of the city * Take it easy, just enjoy the sights and sounds |

A friend of mine went there about 40 years ago, said that his 7 days there was the most effective diet he had ever been on.
Watch the movie "Outsourced" before you go, not sure how realistic it is, but it's pretty funny. |

Thanks :) To be 100% transparent I was a bit triggered by the tired old takes in here (Delhi = stomach issues ), and I expected more resilience, open-mindedness and curiosity from members on a forum based around tool watches meant for exploring. To each their own though, can't fault anyone's preferences/experiences. Genuinely hope Seth has a wonderful time in Delhi and encourages others to visit as well. I enjoy his car content on here

To avoid any stomach issues, don't eat any meat. I travelled through India for 3 months a few years ago and went vegan, never had any stomach issues.

Totally feel you in the triggered. Especially by those that have never been. However, In fairness, I used to go many times. Had a 10 year visa etc etc. The one time I broke my own rules because staff invited me to have lunch they ordered in with them (thought nothing of it at the time, was super tasty…and then out for the rest of the week in the 10th circle of hell - probably for eating a cow). Very nice list you have supplied. |

I have long wanted to visit India based on my history with yoga. And I think negativity is making it more of an adventure. I’m genuinely more excited after reading many of these responses. And the flight…well, I’ll be lying down asleep for much of it. I’ll read and write for the rest.

Enjoy! Hope it's a great time. Re: yoga, in India the first few months of instruction are focused around breath control (pranayama) vs body postures (asanas) - I've noticed this is a bit different from how yoga is taught in the US. If you are experienced, you might want to inform the instructor beforehand that you want to skip pranayama and go right to the asanas.

The problem I see is when people visit India having done minimal research, they think it'll be like going to Singapore or Tokyo or Hong Kong, because it's all "Asia" to them and they don't grasp how vast the region is. Many of those folks will book budget hotels, get sick, be scammed, get lost, etc. |

I have been to India many many many times over the last 20 some years. Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. It’s a beautiful country. I’ve had street food. Hotel food and food from local restaurants in all of the places mentioned. I have had zero issues. Maybe it’s because I grew up in Malaysia where eating street food is the norm and I have attained a strong tummy because of it. I love eating where the locals eat. So do your best to know what your tummy is capable and isn’t capable of. Especially with strong, spicy food.
As to what watches are safe to wear. I’d be careful where I go and what I’m doing. There will be many kids asking for handouts, so do not let your heart be too soft and give in. As many many many many more kids will magically appear once you give a donation to the first child. The locals are friendly and the hotels there will give you top notch service. My favourite breakfast is the masala omelette and I will usually ask the chef to add on some freshly chopped chilli. Down it with a masala tea and some dosas and you will have a very happy tummy. One last thing. Since you have a dedicated driver. Make use of his local knowledge, ask the man for the best place to eat and to visit. And oh…drinks at local pubs aren’t cheap. Dunno why drinks in India cost the same, maybe more than what it would cost in Hong Kong. Lastly, enjoy your trip and please do share photos… |

We haven't been to India but I would love to go. I was VERY disappointed when one of my Indian business school friends decided to get married in SF and not in his home country!
What's life without traveling the world and engaging in different cultural experiences? Have fun out there! |

I ate food off a street cart in Chennai.
Delicious food (Pani Puri), never felt better afterwards. I was very lucky, but that's how I roll....

I just think it’s awesome you are getting on a plane, confronting something you are uncomfortable with. I look forward to reading the future travel-photos thread and feel certain it’s going to be great, because it sounds like you have already framed things the right way. Safe travels.

im an Indian and I'm based in mumbai.
you will be just fine dont worry . some pointers: 1. you can wear any watch you want- you won't be robbed- brand awareness is not high unlike the western part of the world. 2. drink bottled water only. 3. do no eat outside food. stick to your hotel 5 star meals. 4. wear sun screen. 5. you can wear a mask if you want. 6. if you come to mumbai we can catch up. 7. enjoy india- take it easy- you will be good- Indians are friendly people. just dont fall for tourist guides/ etc-- they are assholes. |

Appreciate the advice Akshay. Thank you.
I’m getting pretty excited to go. Wish I were going to Mumbai. Will see if I can somehow make that happen.
