I like the 44 for sure. If you can pull it off, that's the one with more wrist presence.

I went for 42mm when both watches were available in the shop, because

1. 44mm is simply too large for my 6.8 inches wrist
2. Rarity. I guess 42mm will be more difficult to obtain because of its grey ceramic. I can get 15% discount for 44mm but maybe not for the Ghost.

In the real world who even cares about an in house movement? I can understand a lot of enthusiasts here valuing it but the average buyer probably doesn’t even care. I’ve never once wished that my platinum 44 had a different movement, it’s accurate to + 2 seconds a day and that’s good enough for me.

I kind of agree. My AP ROC which is completely not in-house ( it has a F.Piguet movement ) has the best accuracy among my AP watches.

I voted 42 Ghost for 3 reasons

1) Size (small wrists)
2) Titanium bracelet available
3) No red (I actually love the red on just the watch itself but in a one or two watch collection I feel like the red would clash with too many outfits sticking out from under certain shirt and sweater colors where the Ghost wouldn't clash with anything.

Yea for me it’s not even a discussion of in house or not. That movement just looks tiny in a 42mm case, and even more so in the 44mm. It’s like you’re wearing 80% case and 20% movement. They can do better and likely will soon, because from the front it’s gorgeous. I’m dying to pick up a 44 ROO.

44.... the other looks too plain. So much detail in the 44 makes it a winner. Especially with the fire colored time hands

Good call. I’d say save up for the 5170P.

I decided not to buy another AP until they make their own chronos.

You do realise it is an ‘in-house’ movement with the chrono module attached?

Yeah taking the easy way out - why develop an integrated chrono while off the shelf one is readily available.

I'm surprised AP is categorized as one of the holly trinity while they have no in-house chrono. ALS should replace them. All AP makes is pretty cases and fine finishing.

I know plenty of AP fans here but charging a premium for pretty face doesn't cut it anymore. Heart is where it's at. I'm switching to Patek (5170P/5320G) and ALS (Dato up/down) which are masterpieces.

Good memory. They are all gone. I'm now investing in either 5170P or Dato in platinum, next step will be a PC.

To each his/her own. Wouldn’t trade my APs, which are much more my style and extremely accurate, reliable timekeepers, when or whether chronograph functions are being used.

I own the 26400IO in 44 mm and I'd take it over the Grey Ghost Monochrome any day. The watch is more balanced in terms of its color scheme and the red accents break the somewhat monotone look that an all grey Offshore has. However, as far as your wrist size I think the 42 mm might be a much better fit for you. Just my two cents.

Since when doesn't AP make an in house chrono? They just don't make one for their entry level watches. They make chrono tourbillons and grande comps with split minute chronos in house and I would even say the Schumacher lap timer is in house since AP owns APRP. More sophisticated/complex than any patek or ALS chrono.

They needed a more cost effective chrono when they created the ROO so they used the base JLC 889 and DD module back when they owned 40% of JLC. I dont mind the modular chrono in the ROO at all. Its been there since the creation of the watch and the 3120 is an excellent base movement that's really good looking. I would like to see a base in house chrono in the ROC with a display back. We'll see if the chrono is ever launched in the "new line" and if it makes it to the ROC.
