Wonder how many anti LIV golf people here will completely give a pass to a Qatar held World Cup and it’s participants.

I was wondering when this thread would come up! It's going to be difficult, but hopefully we can move forward without injecting the political overtones of this very controversial World Cup into the thread because, for me at least, the World Cup is the greatest sporting tournament the world has ever known.
Three of my neighbors are leaving on Saturday to go to Qatar to watch 22 games! They've gone to every W/C for the past 25 years and ask if I would come along, but can't take that kind of time off work. As an aside, Belgium has been favorites at the last W/C as well as Euro Cup and never quite reaches expectations. I see the odds makers have them further down so perhaps they can make a run. |

Would love to see Messi go out with a World Cup to cap his amazing career. Brazil is also due.
On another note, Qatar just banned beer at the matches. What a disappointment for fans!! |

I don't understand those odds, we don't do it that way over here, could someone help please? If I put 1 dollar on Brazil at +333, how much would I win?
The way we do it is (example) 2/1 so £2 pounds back on a £1 bet, so one would win £2 + the original £ bet, total £3.

My thoughts are that Brazil or Argentina for the win, I don't think England are very settled and are not coming into the competition in good form (I hope I am proved wrong) France or Spain always have a chance and write the Germans off at your peril. As I said above, I just fancy Belgium to do well.

I’m actually a FIFA WC Committee member on account I’m rich. Here’s my ballot. It was all fair and square so stop knocking the heat and no booze. Just stop.
(Btw Qatar already bought their way to round 2) |

1. Qatar was always going to ban sales but they just played along saying they weren't right up until the last moment. 2. They were going to allow beer sales but once they saw that the tourism numbers they were hoping for not materialize, they decided to say F it and ban beer. I'm rooting for USA but I'll be happy with anyone that hasn't won one before. |

I have money on Brazil as one of the favourites, Spain as a decent shot, esp if the young Barca midfield boys come of age, and Uruguay as the outsider, with as good a set of forwards as any.
Think England missed their great chance last summer at home with Safegate being too conservative with so many attacking players, now a QF would be a good result. |

And Qatar just breached the $75m Bud sponsorship deal by doing so. FIFA now owes Bud the $75m plus any damages, apparently, as the serving of the mainline beer brand ‘in venues and in the immediate market’ part of the deal. Of course the details matter but this is typically in these agreements. I regret picking Qatar but I’m keeping the yacht. #Karma |

I wouldn't be surprised if we - Germany that is - will exit just as quickly as last time around.
Our center defense remains shaky (except for Rüdiger maybe), the flanks are defensively even weaker for lack of experience and quality (as recently as 18 months ago the left defender Raum still played 2BL for Fürth), and we have not a single quality center forward. The only center forward on the team (Füllkrug) played 2BL last season and had his first game for Germany ... two days ago. Go figure. I am a big fan of World Cup watching at the beer garden in summer but I cannot get excited about this winter World Cup. Already missing the BL and 2BL football and will likely watch more NFL games than World Cup matches in the coming weeks. Go Bills! |

Anyone interested in how this Qatar World Cup came to be and has Netflix should watch FIFA Uncovered.
