My UK AD is WOS, but it’s Rolex only boutique.

So there is never a problem with them trying to flog anything other than Rolex.

I personally wouldn't play the wait game with an AD on any brand especially not Rolex...the wait period seems never ending. The hype on Rolexes are just on the high.

Life is to short to be on any kind of make believe wait list! Plus the fact the service and attitude from some ADs really is beyond a joke! Having to play some kind of childish game or buy jewellery you don’t necessarily need is ridiculous. Go grey get the watch you want enjoy it and don’t look back! Overtime the watch will more than likely increase in value anyway.

From what i've been told, when a SA sells a Rolex at a AD they receive little to no commission. Therefore there is no incentive for Sales Associates to sell a customer a Rolex without the hopes of them buying something else

Be patient. They are great watches, at retail. Not above MSRP.

Hi OP,
well, it sounds like a good new!
I don't know if you are going to get it the bluesy, but at least
the call confirm that you ARE in a list.

I know you wanted a BLNR, but consider this:
first ask if purchasing the bluesy you will remain in the BLNR list
if yes (and if this can help with you BLNR list)
and IF YOU LIKE INDEED THE BLUESY,
buy it and wait for your BLNR with your new blue friend on your wrist.
If it will take 2 or 3 years... you could consider to give them back the bluesy
and get the BLNR: for sure WOS will be part of the certificated preowned program. no?

Well chances are a Batman might never happen.

Do you like the bluesy enough to take it?

If you have funds for both, taking the bluesy could help towards you getting a batman.
However only buy if you love it

If i would really want a watch and it's not available through AD i would go grey. The AD's in the Netherlands have also pre-owned ones, this way i would be more comfortable than buying from a non AD related seller.

Getting the watch you really want now, rather than waiting years for it, is worth paying extra it seems to me.
I don't know where i'm at in a few years, try to live in the moment.

So i would not buy the bluesy, i'd rather go grey for Batman

Question is whether you want a TT blue sub.

If yes, then go for it

If not, then if you buy it, you become part of the problem why we have such long lists / inability to join a list

Grand Seiko

Or just source the BLNR elsewhere. I bought my CHNR that way and have zero regrets.

Hi all, thanks.
I do love the bluesy and put my name down as a sort of back up as no BLNR. Didn't expect it to become available quite so quickly and now in a quandary haha.

If you put your name down for it then I’d take it. The AD seems to have done you a favour to make up for the mistake and I think personally would be bad form to turn it down. However if you don’t actually like the watch then call him and just say you changed your mind and want the watch to go to a good home- hopefully they’ll see that as a good customer rather than a flipper etc.

So new there's a Bluesy involved?

IME buying anything does not guarantee you a spot on "the list." There's also no way the SA can make such a promise. That's the weakness in the approach used by ADs today. (I've bought two watches locally for my wife in the last year and neither of them has produced an SS for me.) IF they offer a package deal and have your desired piece in stock on that day, then sure. After that you can ditch the Bluesy that you didn't want anyway.

A lot of stores now do not consider the buying of Rolex watches as earning a special relationship. They can sell Rolex to anyone. They give preference to the folks who buy the other stuff.

Indeed. The higher margin stuff that's difficult to move. Rolex provides leverage unlike they've ever seen before.

Amen to that.

Even Hamilton is finished as good as Rolex nowadays.

And Grand Seiko? Wow

I won't waste time on a list.

Most people need to accept that the real price for these is higher than retail and you can pay that price in the grey channel or pay that price by buying other things from your AD. Feels like a bad deal but there it is.

Those who accept it will be gouged. Those who don't, won't. Each to their own. Some will bend over, others will not. I think that a rigid POV at either end of the spectrum is the least helpful but again, we each find a particular position that suits us.
