And if you do or don’t own one, what is your favourite iteration of this watch?

5740 or 5270G blue no chin would be my vote, owned the 5270P for a bit last year.

I can’t speak to most of your questions but if you have the wrist for it the the 5270p-014 green looks like a great daily and I prefer the typeface so much. You have to be willing to really wear it I expect since it’s a pita to set. Considering the price of the sports watches I think it’s much more a sign of taste to wear something like this daily. And while there’s always something better and rarer, your have hit one hell of a plateau with this watch.

the only issue besides size is that shade of green may be bright for a daily.

Nice project. I don't own one but I'm interested by the answer about everday wearability as well.

I nearly went for the 3rd generation 5270G-018 (silver dial, no chin) back in 2016 or so.

Hence, I still love this one (posted by ChaseATX) and also like the R version. However, I would really hesitate with a 5970R as well if I had to choose today.

A 3970 is much smaller, with a very different, more traditional, cute feeling to it, more "vintage" in the spirit, less expensive. It's hard to choose frankly.

For me, its the PCC 5270G-018 or 5270P.

Good Lord though - I truly wonder if these are practical and wearable daily watches, even though I lust after them all day.

A lot comes with it - the fear of bumping it on something and messing up the case and movement (and the associated cost), the water resistance limitations, the servicing costs $2-3K at least, the manual wind that makes it difficult to set down for long periods of time...

I think the PCC can be a daily watch. The manual winding of the crown takes less than 10s daily and shouldn't be an issue to daily wearers.

My favorite PCCs are 1518, 2499, 5970 and 5270. I also like the 5004 and 5204.

I have always wanted a PCC in my collection because in my view, PCC is synonymous with Patek Philippe. Glad I added one this year.

Don’t own one.
They are beautiful works of horology.

I do own Patek, Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Hamilton, and Seiko. They are worn for their simple function - not for complications of the art.

But my perpetual calendar is an Apple Watch and never needs setting. Just charging. Never off by more than a second. Don’t flame me

I had a 5320G for a couple years. It’s wonderful. But it’s a huge pain to set because of all the pushers and rules. Without the winder option I think it would be frustrating.

FPJ’s perpetual runs absolute circles around PP. Everything set via crown except a lever for the month. Set in any order at any time, no risk of damage to the movement.

Mostly subjective, the weight was perfect as well as the case size. Did not like the top half of the dial was numeral and the bottom half square markers. Additionally the black against the salmon had a halloween tone to it. I'm also incredibly particular and minor details annoy me. Over time, while I did like it, wasn't in love and traded towards a rm072.

While the PC +chrono are amazing watches with the most beautiful movements, for a daily wear I find them too thick and I prefer an automatic watch.


Philippe stern as his choice wore a 3940 as his daily.

This 5940 (a cushion shape 3940 if you will) is my favorite watch.

Very nice, if I’m honest, the 3940 has always been a watch I hope to own. I know people don’t like the term grail, so I won’t, but one of possibly 3 end game watches for me.

The 3940 is a great watch. It has caused the rest of my watches to feel very neglected. Always find myself reaching for it. Definitely been endgame for me once I acclimated to the smaller size.

Thanks a lot for the feedback :) I see, indeed the aesthetical details from a dial is something very personal and that might not work on the long run.
Congrats for your RM, I'm so attracted to this brand (I owned a RM35 original a few years and regret I didn't get the RM055 All Grey when I could). Each time I saw RMs in the boutique, I wanted to get one. This brand is incredible.

A 5960 annual calendar chrono is my daily wear.

I have been swapping between my 5270J and 5370P as “daily” for as long as I’ve had them. A Rolex DD (YG or Plat) subs in when doing things in water, and my BP FF or AP Diver for actual swimming/diving or more rough and tumble.

If I'm at home or traveling with the 5270, it only takes a few seconds every couple days to wind and keep it going. If I leave it behind on a trip, the power reserve covers the first couple days, and the remaining “catch up” is easy to do just by winding the time forward a few days with the crown. I have not let it get so far behind that I needed to use the case pushers to reset.

I had concerns about the “inconvenience” of a manual wind PC, and even started a thread here on that topic. After owning one for some months now, I have no regrets.

My 5270 is my favorite to wear until I swap with the 5370. Then it’s my favorite until I swap back. I love them both.

I’m not sure I’d ever have a daily watch but I don’t think it would be a PCC

My 5270 is probably my fav watch but I think I’d much prefer an annual or weekly calendar. 5205 or even a 5212.
